Hey guys a friend of mine (were both in the UK) recently got a 360 and the live subscription for the year, and for the first few weeks he was telling me how good it was, and all the extra stuff you can get. A few people i know tell me the same thing.. so i'm going to have to get it sooner rather than later.. :)

Anyways, 2 weeks ago, he's deleting his profiles/gamertags and deletes them all, but when he goes to recover gamer tag, it tells him it's already there, but when he tries to connect to live, he gets nothing but an error msg, saying he can't connect.

He spoke to MS on there helpline.. and there terrible NO HELP AT ALL, they give him a ref number and say they will call him back, and they DONT.

He's tried everything, from his 360 to his modem to his broadband connection, to formatting his HD.. he's tried everything.

It appears that his gamer tag is in limbo, MS have told him his tag is there and it's all ok, when he logs onto the live website it's there, but when he tries to connect, he just gets error msgs.

The really weird thing is he has a month free account and when he deletes that tag and recovers it, it works everytime and connects straight away to live, but his account he's paid for wont?? Sorry it's alittle long, but any help would be great thanks.

Sounds like the gamertag file is corrupt, I'm trying to understand why your friend deleted all the accounts. Does it allow him to login to the machine with the gamertag, without connecting to live? He may have to delete everything off the HDD to correct the problem.

I'm not sure why he deleted it, but he did, as i mentioned he has a free month account and when ever he deletes that, he can just go back to recover gamertag and it works everytime, but when he tries to recover his subscription (paid for) account, No Dice!

He says he's cleared his HD and still nothing, and he called up the Live helpline, and they told him its all there and working fine, and when he logs onto the site its there, but when he trys to connect via the 360 he gets nothing.

(I have read that a few people have had the same problem, and by using a memory card instead of the HD it recovers?, but my friend says you need the HD to connect to the live service, and he has no memory card.)

I'm not sure if he has just deleted the file? does he maybe need to format the disk? altogether?

I don't have a 360 so its alittle like the blind leading the blind, at the minute he's stuck with his free account.

Again any help would be appreciated

If it is possible to format the drive that me be the only way. I'm trying to remember what my friend did when he had a problem simular to that, but I can remember.

one of two things needs to happen, your friend will need to call microsoft and have them give him the code to wipe the cashe on the hard drive (slightly different from formatting). Or, your friend needs to borrow a memory card from someone, remove the hard drive, recover his profile to the memory card, then transfer it back to the hard drive.

You helped me remember, the memory card swap is what my friend had to do.
