So I have no idea what the difference between user mode and kernel mode is, as this update supposedly only does "user mode" homebrews, but whatever.

Does this mean I can now run homebrew on a 2.81 machine? Most importantly, can I do the update to 2.81 from 1.5 and still run NesterJ! :D

EDIT: This may only be good for 2.80, not 2.81, so I apologize. Can anyone confirm?

Kernal mode access is required to run anything and everything on a PSP. User mode access usually means that you can run homebrew, but not the full gamut of homebrew. Before updating to 2.80 check fanjita's site for compatibility. I'd be suprised if NesterJ *didn't* work with this new eLoader (NesterJ was the first emu I got working with the 2.0 eLoader :) ), but you should *always* verify stuff like this before taking the plunge.

(I won't be confirming for you as I'm not *touching* my firmware, I'm happy with what it is :) )

Kernel mode is required for apps that use the pspīs most advanced hardware resources (like the media engine, or the infrared port, the wifi, etc) while user mode has more restrictions that make some apps incompatible with it. THeres still quite a few of apps for user mode only, so dont get discouraged.
