I'm starting to get interested in my DS handheld system and I wonder if there's been one of those Top 20 Games thread for this system yet? Or does everyone consider it too soon for this system to do one? I did a search a day or so ago but didn't come up with anything so if there has been one, maybe someone can direct me to it.

There was just a thread about this right before the site was down for so long, because I remember it was just a week or two after Contact came out and it was on a lot of people's lists already (mine included). I'm not going to find it for you, though, because I'm lazy.

Funny...I'd say both of those games sucked....quite terribly too.
You all pretty much nailed down the big ones, I only have one left to add:
Clubhouse Games - seriously

I'd like to see a few more thoughts on Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time because, as a Mario fan, it's one I've thought about getting. Luckily, I just bought two Mario games (one GBA game and another that a few have named on the lists above) so I'm good for now as far as Mario games go.

Its nice, but has ZERO replay value. I put about 30 hours (to beat it) into the game, enjoyed the story, but wasn't challenged by anything in the game except for the timing for double attacks once I got the hammer. I was very unimpressed with the lack of anything touch in the game. One point to clean off a piece of paper 3/4 of the way thru the game is absolute BS. If you liked the GBA Mario/Luigi game then this is a buy because of the carry over, otherwise its just a get it if you find it cheap and like Actionish RPG games.

I just want to second (and give my thoughts on...):
Elite Beat Agents - incredible and different, with way more replay than you'd expect.
Meteos - brilliant puzzler by the creator of Lumines. Anyone who thinks it's bad is just bad at it.
Kirby's Canvas Curse - one of the most innovative and fun uses of the stylus early on.
Mario Kart DS - fun conversion that borrows equally from all previous games, mostly notable for it's stellar graphics and having the best online play for the system.

This is pretty much spot on with my thoughts.
The game is very bland, straightforward, and possesses absolutely no challenge at all. Unlike PapaStu here, I couldn't even get into the story. I'd put it to about the same calibur as a fanboy fanfic posted of at Nintendo's Nsider forums.
In the end, the game just became a monotonous and tedious chore, something a game should never be.

I'm just curious as to why you Like YI 2 but not NSMB. To me (and I'm sure to a lot of other people) it's every bit as good as YI 2, though I'd have to say I like YI 2 a teeny bit better myself.

The game is a monotonous and a tedious chore? Huh, that's interesting. That's basically the definition of a challenging game. How is sitting at the same part of a game replaying it over and over in an attempt to beat it not tedious? But yet you complain about it lacking a challenge. A very strange statement indeed.
Elite Beat Agents is garbage. They took all the good songs out when they localized it.
Brain Age? That "game" sucks ass after you play the little "educational" minigames a few times through. I played it for about 15 minutes on three different days and I got bored.
Get Phoenix Wright. It is AAA.

Don't listen to them.
Did you play the original? The game isn't about its story, I mean when has the Mario universe ever had quality stories to begin with. If anything it's about on par with Super Mario RPG in terms of story (gameplay on the other hand... no.) It has a certain charm that anyone will love, especially if you have a lot of experience with Nintendo games, you'll get some of the insider jokes. Yes the game is pretty easy if you're used to leveling up for hours in games like Final Fantasy, but the combat is really fun, the addition of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi add a lot to the combat system. Ultimately I'd love to see future Mario and Luigi's branch out and allow for other playable characters, but as it stands it's still a blast.
The game has its charm, its puzzles, its bosses, its length and most importantly its fun. You'd have to be a fool to not pick this one up, especially considering you can get it up for around $20, which makes up for its lack of replay value. There's a reason this has an 86 on Meta Critic. (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/marioandluigipartnersintime?q=mario%20and%20luigi)
@ slip81 - Eh, probably because I have no desire to play what I consider an updated version of the original Super Mario Bros. Both New Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi's Island are incredibly similar to their predecessors, however I think I've grown tired of the original Super Mario Bros. formula after playing the game on almost every system since it was released. Unlike Super Mario Bros. we haven't seen a true Yoshi's Island experience since the original (or I guess the GBA port), as Yoshi's Story clearing doesn't count, and I think I can appreciate that type of gameplay more since I haven't played in what seems like forever.

I know I'm in a small minority, but I loved Super Princess Peach a lot more than New Super Mario Bros.
Phoenix Wright is definitely in my top tier.
Trauma Center is defintiely in my top tier.
And Cooking Mama might break into there as well. Just a great, simple time-killer game. Never gets dull, always keeps you on your toes.
Oh, and of course Elf Bowling 1&2.
(Okay, I might be kidding about Elf Bowling)

Now I may have to reconsider about Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time. Maybe I'll wait until I can get it for a bit less.
I see some people refer to Yoshi's Island 2...is this the one officially titled Yoshi's Island DS or is that a completely different game? I'm thinking they're the same (but am not positive) since Yoshi's Island DS just recently came out.

Elite Beat Agents is garbage. They took all the good songs out when they localized it.
Garbage? Are you on crack? I think some people might disagree with you (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/933052.asp).
Are some of the song selections pretty terrible? Yes. There's a little too much pop. But along with that, they also have classic tunes by such artists as Deep Purple, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Boston, and Earth, Wind and Fire. Honestly, I have to tell you that I'm the biggest music snob I know, and while you're playing this game, even if you hate the songs, you'll literally be having too much fun to care. If you're enough of a weeaboo to completely discount the game simply because they removed the JPop when they localized it, then I feel sorry for you. I have no idea what it must be like to base your taste in games on such arbitrary factors.
Facts about Elite Beat Agents:
-The game is challenging. I'm good at rhythm games (I can do tens in DDR if that means anything to you), and several of the songs on the normal mode kicked my ass over and over the first time. After that, you unlock two harder modes. I bought the game sometime during the week of its launch and I still haven't managed to beat the hardest mode.
-The game has a good deal of depth to it. Four difficulty settings, two of which have to be unlocked, eighteen songs + four bonus unlockable tracks, multi-cart multiplayer for up to four players in either co-op, vs., or 2on2, single cart multiplayer for up to 4 players on five of the songs, that give you completely new story scenarios for the them... the list just goes on and on.
-The story is amazing, hilarious, endearing and, at times, even touching. They completely reworked it for the U.S. release, and I hear from those I know who played the Japanese that ours is in every way superior. While playing the game on the bottom screen, the story unfolds on the top screen. Each level is split up into three different segments, which can each turn out in one of two different ways depending on how well you play. Then, the end of each level has a total of three outcomes based on your performance. I've put a ridiculous amount of time into this game (i literally put blisters on my hand, which I haven't done since Crazy Taxi DC) and I still haven't seen them all.
I'm sorry, I know this turned into a bit of a rant, but I don't want people who haven't played the game to see only the detractors dumping on it. I love my DS, but this is the only game I've played that I've felt has really taken great advantage of the touch screen. It's probably my favorite DS game that I've played, and I know it's the best one I own. If you're reading through this thread and seeing the negative opinions for the outspoken vocal minority, please, please try it for yourself. You'll be missing out if you don't.

I'm not the only one who thinks so? Super Princess Peach is awesome.
But NSMB... I hate it! Level design is extremely frustrating, still game is too easy, new power-ups get old very fast, playing with mini mario is a nightmare... I really can't see what is so great about it. Not a horribly game but SPP is so much better.
Trauma Center rocks!

monotonous - adj - lacking in variety
tedious - adj - long and tiresome
chore - noun - an unpleasant task
Neither of those terms, in their context, were used to reference "challenging."

I really liked Mario and Luigi... It wasn't the perfect RPG but it was certianly fun.
My favorite DS games by far have been
Mario Kart
Phoenix Wright
Advance Wars (I didn't play the GBA ones till after this one - so I won't be able to counter any of the "It's just more of the same" arguments)
