That's pretty damned cool. I'd have to say that sort of applies to me cause my parents ALWAYS refused to buy me games of any sort. They made me save up and buy my own games and refused to get them for me as gifts or anything. I got all obsessed too :) Fortunately, I don't think I'm QUITE as obsessed as that guy, but I'd say that's definitely a part of where my hobby comes from. Well..that and gaming is damned cool!

Damn right. Most of this stuff I wouldn't have had a hope of owning when it was new. Sadly, the advents in emulation robs some of the mystery behind a new platform or game. (At least I got a 32X before they started emulating /that./)

I'm glad to see somebody asked that...looking at this board made me wonder that too.
Speaking for myself, I think it's boredom, really, combined with our culture's rampant conspicuous consumption.
I try not to "collect" for monetary value, although I don't play the games I have enough to really justify being a "player". I don't have many either--just the games I dig. I got FFIII on SNES because it was considered a classic and hard to find (complete, anyway), but I hardly play the thing! So why do I have it? Why do I think it's cool to have? Who the hell else is going to care? Strange behaviour this is...

I'm not sure, I dont collect games earlier than I grew up with (no pre-NES), but seriously I play newer games WAY more than old ones.

Wasn't deprived as a child, but I like to know what I missed out on. ;)

well, I used to play them ever since I was a kid...so I guess I just want to play the games for the consoles that I've never had the chance to. It's about the best I can think of ;p

Because videogames are fun, videogames allow you to explore other worlds without leaving the comfort of your home, videogames stir the imagination in ways that other activities cannot, that is why I collect and play videogames \^_^/

For a long time while my mom was still alive I started collectiing games out of a kind of spite....because she threw away my Colecovison, Intellivision, Atari 2600, ALL my games. I was so pissed, although it really wasn;t her fault. They were all stored in the garage for quite some time, and she thought they were "old toys". I remember when I was spending all sorts of cash to get them back she thought I had lost it. But I still collect. I love collecting and playing the games. Now I wish she was here to play a game or two with.
