I don't recall having asked about this in the past, and I'm rather intrigued by it. I have an N64 controller that is two-toned. It's half red and half charcoal gray-ish. The back half of the controller is red and the face/front half is charcoal. It's an official controller with the Nintendo logo. Anyone ever seen one? Doesn't look as though it has been taken apart and put back together this way either. Thanks in advance.

It could have been what you said, someone combining two funtastic controllers, or it could have been a Japanese one.

Japan had many two-tone N64 items, like this one: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k6-49-en-70-1d43.html

Excellent info! The only thing I forgot to mention is that the controller isn't clear. Does that make any difference as to what it could be?

I have never seen an opaque two-tone N64 controller, but they may exist. I think that someone did it themselves; it would be extremely hard to tell if someone did it.

The Japanese Mario Kart 64 came in an oversize box with a two-tone controller. Front half was standard grey, back half was black. I'd guess the pad came in the same style boxset, but which game?

That is a bi-colored controller. And asking about it makes you bi-curious.
