Why dont they just concentrate on fixing what they already have out there? starting with say....backwards compatibility?

He is over his head IMO. I don't see myself ever buying a $2,500 video game console. And at a loss?? I don't see why you would want to trump the market based on audio/speed and so on. Didn't that happen before and it sank a few companies?
The wii as of now is out shipping the PS3, IMO again because of the entertainment of the games, not the 1080 feature and so on. That guy is a headcase.

The price is only speculated and on what basis?

They're basically talking about a next-gen PSX (The DVR/video hub, not the original Playstation).

It was only a matter of time, although somehow I doubt that it'll be quite $2500.

I thought the PS3 had unlimited power that could never be maxed out?

With the PS3 costing 600, I really wouldent doubt the $2500 price tag, I mean blu ray players are $1000, so if they add all the crap they are talking about I dont think the price tag is totaly out the window, maybe something closer to the $2000 range.

There's no way in hell that's the actual size of it. That's a Photoshop job if I've ever seen one......

at least I would hope so.

the size probably isn't too far off. if he wants to make it for the av market, he'll most likely make it the size of a large dvd player or receiver so it will fit in stereo cabinets.

Exactly what I was thinking, except the PSX looked cooler, imo.

And my, that thing is large.

Sony's strategy is very odd. He's basically describing a magical device called a "media center PC" which, amazingly enough, is something Sony is ALREADY selling. TheVaio media centers are quite nice. The Cell proc is really not all that interesting in a general computing scenario. Its *potentially* interesting in gaming and its very interesting in a super computer setting, but in a media center PC? The Core 2 duo is already delivering more general computing power than the Power PC in both its PS3 cell and XB360 configurations.

I really dont see what Sony stands to gain by competing against both itself and the entire PC industry (including Intel and AMD). By the time they'd manage to make the "PS3 AV" extensible enough to compete, they would have a Power PC based media center PC. Something Apple just bailed out of. They should consider that very seriously.

Are you sure this news is real? I mean, it just sounds so stupid...

Everytime I read something negative about Blu-ray or the PS3 I think that a company can't possibly be this stupid. Then I see your Betamax sig and chuckle while I remember that this is the second time for Sony.

Yikes did a bunch of stupid suits take over the company when ps2 became a huge success? They dont know what in bloody hell they are doing anymore (what happened to the games sony!?!?!?)

Beta lived on, it was/ (is?) used professionally at News stations and whatnot.
