As I creep through my mid-30s, I've been thinking about my "retirement games." There are a lot of games I have (and for some reason keep buying) that I know I won't be playing any time soon. The FF Chronicles/Anthology on PS1, for example. My plan is that when I retire, I'm going to have a lot of time to sit down and spend time playing games I never had time to play when working. Anyone else think about this? Any games you're saving or know you won't be playing until you retire?

For me, definitely the PS1 collections. I bought Golden Sun the day it came out, but never got more than 10 hours into it. I keep meaning to go back and start that from scratch. I have Majora's Mask for the cube, and I doubt I'll get to that any time soon, although I would like to eventually play it.

Theoretically all my rpg's are "retirement" games as I never have a chance to play them due to time constraints with family, work, etc.... So I know exactly what your talking about. I wouldn't say I'm saving some for retirement but there are a few I tackle only on holidays and days off and they are in my collection strictly for that purpose.

Funny - I have had the "retirement games" plan for a long time.

I haven't played a game for over 3 months, yet I still can't pass up a sale or good deal.

Someday...

I think with my buying habits, I'll have plenty of games to play during retirement. My back log of games is bordering on ridiculous.

When I retire? I going to give all my gaming shit to thrift stores! I figure I'll be Blind, Crippled and crazzy at that point.

I'll have arthritis in my fingers, loss of movement in my right shoulder, and 50% vision in my left eye by the time I'm retired. So I don't know how much gaming I'll be able to do.

Actually I'm starting to shift the other way, not currently having as much time (as I'd like) to tackle my collection, so I'm leaning toward games that require shorter playtimes, or at least can be played through in one sitting/session. Also classic cartridge games for the VCS & Colecovision, & classic compilations such as Activision Anthology & MAT1.

Racing games (hopefully my reflexes will stay sharp), & board/TV show-type games like Jeopardy, LIFE, Scrabble, Wheel of Fortune, etc.

I picked up Crave's Puzzle Challenge for PS2 awhile back for $5. It has several types of word & number games, w/ tons of each kind of puzzle- 200+ for one type of crossword alone, w/ unlockable backgrounds & music.

I have no retirement plans since I'm only 22 and haven't even gotten into a full timer job yet, but I do plan on doing some gaming come graduation after work hours quite a few out of the week. I'll be seeing how it all turns out when that time comes, but til then it's all about the time off on the weekends.
