Hey Guys,
So my PS3 60gb version preorder FINALLY came in and I am suppose to pick it up tonight. I currently own a Wii, and a 360. Wii is amazing. 360 and gears of war, fun time. PS3??? ummm uhhhh ummmm there is nothing that I really want for it. I mean Metal Gear Solid 4 but thats going to be a while. I know I am eventually going to buy one just for that game but I really don't need to get it now. By that time they will be available. Is there anything coming down the pipeline for the PS3 thats coming out now? What do you guys think?? Pick it up??? or cancel???

I'm in the same position as you, except I can't afford it right now. My opinion? Decide if you can use the blue ray player. If you have a nice HD TV it might be worth it. Otherwise, what are you getting it for? Resistance?

Yeah I have a pretty nice HD TV but I kinda want blu ray to fail misserabley. I have the 360 HD DVD player, both formats have there good titles right now I do wish T2 was available on HD DVD I guess this is my way of getting it since its on blu ray. Yeah Resistance was on my mind. that and fight night round 3 because I do like that new exclusive first person camera they got. Anyone else have any input??

I'd recommend a PS3 to someone who would buy a Blu-Ray player, since PS3's Blu-Ray playback is virtually identical to the stand-alone players but for half the price.

If you have a 360 you really don't need one yet. Sony's losing exclusives left and right.

Why not buy it and then resell it, then buy it again later. If you're humming and hawing and asking random people what you should do, I'd suggest you probably don't want it all that much at this point in time. But there is money to be made if you're so inclined.

I'd say if you can afford it now and it won't kill your wallet, why not pick it up now. Who knows when you will be able to buy it again (not saying you will/won't be able to afford it easily, i don't know what you make.) You know that PS3 will eventually have those exclusives that you'll want anyways. If you don't want to spend the money and use it for something else, cancel the order.

Yeah I think I will pick it up. Your right though, I kinda don't want it all that much. I will pick it up and sit on it for a while, can always return it or sell it like you said.

If you have a really, really, really large HDTV screen, then definitely buy it. Some Blu Ray movies look amazing on a huge HDTV screen. But I've seen these movies on smaller HDTV's, and the difference from a regular DVD isn't as night and day. People with really huge screens get a much larger benefit.

From a gaming standpoint, for those of us that already have a Xbox 360, the PS3 is kinda unnecessary right now. Resistance is a decent game, but nothing super special. Ridger Racer 7 is pretty decent. Fight Night might be a wee bit better than the 360 version. Genji is actually a decent rental. But other than that, it's pretty depressing. The Motorstorm demo is probably the best gaming experience on PS3 right now, and it's only a demo. I actually ordered the Japanese version from Play Asia, and hope to get it in my mailbox any day now. The Japanese version doesn't have online play, but other than that, it has everything else. I'm sure when I get that version of Motorstorm that will give me something very compelling to play. I just rented NBA 2K7 the other day, just to compare it with the 360 version, and they pretty much look identical, but I like the controls of the 360 version better, not to mention the rumble.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming out for the Xbox 360, so there's no reason to get a PS3 now.

I'd recommend you pick it up and sell it on eBay ASAP, you still might be able to make a couple hundred dollar profit off of it.

I'd recommend an Xbox 360 with an HD-DVD player instead of the PS3 - HD-DVD looks better than Blu-ray, and there's more HD-DVD titles available.

I have both the 360 HD-DVD add on, and a PS3, and when it comes to quality of images, Blu Ray and HD-DVD are pretty much identical. Having said that, the early Blu Ray releases were somewhat dissapointing. But that was only a temporary issue. If you think Blu Ray isn't as good as HD-DVD, then I suggest watching Ice Age 2: The Meltdown on Blu Ray. Possibly the best PQ i've seen on either format.

I got one, because I could. It'll be a couple months before we see a decent game. The only thing that seems interesting for the 360 in the next couple months is Lost Planet. So I think HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be getting me through the dry spells.

Corpse Bride looks awesome on Blu-Ray as well, better than the HD-DVD version. It's a shame that the PS3 does not upconvert anything, yet.

I think we are going to see multi-format players in the next couple years, so I have no issues with the competing formats, just concerned that the new players might make the current players obsolete; similar to using the PS2 DVD player.

Bottom-line, if the money is not an issue I'd get one just to be familiar with the technology and to follow it's progress...they will be consistently adding functionality, and I think quicker than the 360 (because they have farther to go).
