Does anyone know where I might be able to appropriate TG16 CD parts? One of the plastic gears involved in moving the laser sled is missing a tooth. It looks like replacing it shouldn't be too much trouble, but I just need to be able to actually buy the part.

Thanks.

Oh, and what kind of lubricant are these gears supposed to have on them?

I guess I'm going to bump this.

Does no one know where I might appropriate the necessary replacement parts for the TG16 CD? Do these gears not usually wear out?

Repairs start at $25.00 CDN. A pittance, IMHO, if you're serious about getting your TG16 CD running again.

Thanks for the plug. However TG16CD parts are as rare as hen's teeth. Any repair that requires TG16CD parts may be a tough one to do. Unless people start selling me their busted TG16CD's in droves.

I was suspicious this was going to be the case. Oh well.

I'll have to start taking apart old NEC CD-Rom drives to see if any of them have the parts I'm looking for.

Or maybe I can get measurements and find some place that just carries gears that has an identical one. Although I this is soon all going to be more trouble than it's worth.

Sadly, sometimes, that's exactly how it goes, when you need a specific part for a system that is not only obsolete, but that is an optional subsystem for an obsolete system.

a NEC cd-rom reader model CDR-35D is identical to the TG16 cdrom. It is an old pc cd drive,it sat in a doc that gave it the proper interface to connect to a pc.Should be good for parts.
