After much bugfixing (and I'm sure more to go), the BBS I've been running for almost 15 years has gone back to its roots on a C64 .. .heck it's running the SAME bbs I had in 1993... backups are cool. So if you're a C64 fan, point your C64 or CGTERM to:

telnet://particlesbbs.dyndns.org

Heavily PETSCII'd, I wouldn't try it on an ANSI terminal for right now.

For people who don't own a real C64 that's hooked to the net, grab CGTERM at www.paradroid.net/cgterm (OSX and Windows)

Aw c'mon.. I figured I'd see more DP people on there. There's even a game of Empire going on ... Empire kicks ass.

That sounds really really neat !

I love that fact that BBSes are alive & well & running on the original hardware!
Like "The Sierra NetWork" for example.
Click here ta see the TV commercial > "The Sierra NetWork" TV Commercial (http://video.tinypic.com/player.php?v=3z07uoi)
I have an Apple Macintosh SE/30 computer -- can I access your BBS with that or does it have ta be with a Commodore64 ?

Later!

You can access it on anything, but in order for it to look like more than a pile of characters, you'll need either a real C64 or to grab CGTERM from www.paradroid.net/cgterm

C'mon.. check out the pile of drives on this puppy!

And look.. even PapaStu is playing Empire if you look close enough!

Wait, Sierra Network, up? Where?

by the way, not a thread jack - I just loaded Icebreaker's BBS in Telnet, the color ASCII thing doesn't look recognizable. Still, it seems to work, which is cool. Edit: Lol, should've read all the comments. Okay, CGTerm it is!

I've been meaning to add some ANSI stuff in there but since this is primarily for people on PETSCII terminals, it would take quite a bit of modding to do that.

im guessing you need to run geos to use the internet with a c64

do you need any special hardware?

Nope, I have a nullmodem cable hooking up to a PC which is running BBS Server. BBS Server is both a modem emulator and a telnet gateway so it routes the traffic over to my C64.

That's pretty cool. I'm not into those types of games but I have a friend that is and he might be interested in checking it out.

Wow, I thought I broke it last night in super empire, I was attacking someone's empire (whether or not it was yours I don't remember) and the whole thing just locked up on me. When I tried to re-connect it was down lol.

Stu found an issue in Super Empire :) I *think* it's working but a new hard drive is on its way so I don't have to worry about this.

Upgraded the BBS to a 270MB SCSI hard drive, JiffyDOS on a C128D. 270MB might not sound like a lot, but it's 1.1 million blocks free baybee!

Online games like Empire, Nukem, Stockmarket and more. If you have some old C64 disks with more Cbase mods on em, upload em!

i played that empire game and the U.S.S. Sothy was destroyed when i left it in space.

We can only mourn the poor citizens of Sothytopia that Stu most likely subjugated and raped to death.

My society isn't a raping one.... just a plundering and subjugated one. It lets me abuse them more before they try and revolt.

Sothy's confused - he played trade wars on the old BBS :)

Papastu: Someone's in your fiefdom, killing your serfs.

Hey man, long time no bump. Are you still running this puppy? I just fired up the CGTerm and I can't seem to connect.

I'm not currently - I had an issue rerouting telnet traffic through my current network setup and I've had a new addition to the family which has been taking up the majority of my free time ;).

Ah, well done. Carry on then, friend.
