I was reading the new issue of EGM and Reviews Editor Shane Bettenhausen says there are going to be some big changes to the review section of the Mag, any ideas on what these changes might be?

Reviews Editor Shane Bettenhause??? Did Shoe leave the staff?
At any event, I wish EGM wouldn't tamper with the format, as I find theirs the most reliable. Don't get me wrong, I think most of the staff of EGM has their thumbs up their asses and the mag relies on smart-assed humor way to much these day, but I like the multiple-reviewers format.

EGM is really getting on my nerves, I didn't renew my subscription this year. Its becoming the Magazine it was in the mid-90's, when the magazine is 400 pages BIG, but half of it is Advertisements. Mind you, I don't mind Advertisements, but it is really annoying when there are 10 pages of ADS for the same game company IN A ROW, AND THEY ALL SUCK!
Plus, I'm not all that interested in the Next-Gen game consoles, so that adds to my disinterest in the mag these days. EGM tried to appeal to the classic gamers when they added that Kick-Ass section where they would revisit, or have an interview with a classic game developer. Ed Logg had like 6 pages or something, I have that mag somewhere in my apartment. After reading Ed Loggs interview and looking over the games he's had his hands on, I realized that he was one of my favorite programmers and I didn't even know it! So, thanks to EGM for trying to stay true to gamings roots, but screw off for stopping the classic section!
Another thing that bugged me was when they got the most recent crew in the mag, they did a new top 100 list and it was totally different than the original 100 list they did for their 100th issue anniversary. Super Metroid as the best game of all time over Tetris? Their 100th issue anniversary list was way more thought out, you could tell they deliberated their choices for weeks for that list.
Another reason I stopped my subscription was because I think most of the new crew doesn't know shit about classic gaming, and I can't respect some chump who only knows X-Box dude!!! They don't have perspective, they need bitch smacked.
Back on topic, I guess big changes to the mag at this point couldn't hurt anything, but you gotta wonder what those changes are? Are they going to try to tone down their witty adult humor? You know they get alot of letters from angry parents on their use of adult humor, and they sometimes address that in their letters section, stating we don't care, parents should monitor their kids behavior blah blah...the writers at EGM might not care what the parents think, but Corporate might have different ideas.

Maybe theyre returning to the 4 man format?
I know that it'll never happen, but I hope its the announcement that Ed Semrad is on his way back. The mag has taken a huge f'n plunge since he's let. Once it was intelligent and thought out, now its bunch of guys thinking theyre cool because they attempt to sound wiseassed. Once in a while, OK. But everytime you hop on the keyboard? No. Shoe's final response in the editorial "faq" was pure stupidity.

Strange. I remember the Semrad years with no fondness whatsoever. The layouts were ugly, the screenshot quality stank, and the writing was poorly edited, lacking insight, and barely above a fifth-grade reading level. The current EGM can get smarmy, but it's a minor complaint, considering that the mag's reviews are usually reliable, while the text is competent and often clever.
I wish they'd put in more info about the Japanese gaming scene, though. That was one of the few things I liked about Semrad's term.

True, the layouts were less than stellar, and i cant recall many of the screenshots (thanks to losing a ton of stuff in a moving mishap), but i remember the ol EGM at least attempting to sound professional. The new bunch iis like the bunch of knuckleheads in the back of the class trying to out do one another with one liners in order to get attention.
I agree tho, i wish there were more Jp coverage other than the odd blurb here and there. Its funny, with imports so readily available online and in gaming stores, theres alot less oversea coverage :/ Hell, they could remove that "Celebrity Gamer" page and replace it with an import page...or with a classic gaming page... I doubt many will miss Vin Diesel's insights into his xXx game ;)

You got that right, I forgot about that celebrity gamer shit, I must have blocked that out of my mind after I seen that EGM wanted us to know what Busta Rhymes take on games was. Does hip hop have to invade every single facet of life? Yo EGM Raps fool, check out EGM Cribs on CNN Headline news G. -_-

Me too,but he is at Gamenow now.Still isn't the same though. :(
I hope they return to the four review system,I just hope they don't switch to one review a game like so many mags do these days. :/
