Has anyone seen the BMW commercial where two kids are opening presents and they go nuts when they see what they got?
If you haven't, it's here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isWoLyG5dpY
Anyway, my wife said that the boy in the commercial was on TV. Apparently he's 16 now and he says that the video was real. He says he got an N64 for Christmas and his mother took the video when he was opening it (the video made it to the Internet and finally in the hands of BMW).
I told my wife that that wasn't correct. You could see in the video that the present he received is a robot! I sai dthat the kid was probably mistaken.
Apparently he wasn't. BMW 'doctored' the box. The original video can be seen here:

I knew that robot box looked really familiar. I was thinking that they might have changed the box but whatever. Now that I think of it, how else could they have gotten that genuine of a celebration with kid actors. Great commercial.

I thought everyone knew the N64 kid.
Here's some recommended viewing.
First, the original video:

I told my wife that it was the N64 kid when we were watching TV, and she couldn't have acted any less interested. Haha. I think this is really reflective of the future of advertising--
Many of the new advertising creatives are people my age (25-29) who grew up with a a computer and use it as an outlet for expression and idea searching. Expect to see a lot more cross over from popular net stuff into common tv adverts. Any good way to get new ideas will always be popular.

Makes perfect sense to me. I remember similar screaming fits when my parents surprised me with a Genesis and a Sega CD. But why bother changing the box in the commercial?

Probably so BMW wouldn't have to pay anything to Nintendo for using an N64 box. Out of curiousity, would the kids/family from the original video get paid by BMW to use that footage?

Depends. They should, but it all depends on how honest BMW is and how good the family's attorneys are.

Maybe he received a check for the same amount he sold his N64 on Ebay for.

Wow, I can't believe I caught that. I thought it looked like a N64 box, but I thought it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I also wondered why kids would be so excited over a corny looking robot. :P

The video has been making its rounds on any number of "Funny Home Video" shows for quite a number of years now. It's such a staple of them that i'm actually a little surprised that some of you haven't seen it before.

Well maybe that's because I don't watch those "Funny Home Video" shows

On of the news shows 20/20 or the like just had a deal on them within the last two weeks. The brother and sister are around 16 now and said they put it on the internet and BMW contacted them to use in the commercial.

Heh, true excitement
I remember seeing it years ago on Americas Funniest Home Vids, but never did actually see the whole clip uncut. I like how this kid goes nucking futs over this N64 and then mom says "Now you can open the small one", and all of a sudden all of his attention goes to the small package and he forgets about the N64
