View Full Version : Do you own The 11th Hour? 'Cause I have a weird version...

A few years back, I bought The 11th Hour at the flea market. I normally make backup copies of my games to play on my system later, but disc four could not be ripped for some reason. And so, the game went into storage for a few years. (I just noticed there's holes in the disc's backing. My new DVD drive read it and ripped it without any problems, but I'm still leery of the quality of the file.)
Anyway, three weeks ago I stumbled upon another copy of the game, and I bought it, intending to replace the CDs on my old package, but I noticed they were different. Asides from some slightly darker inks being used in the new package, I noticed that the CDs had different things written on the inner rings. You know how some companies write down their version numbers or company names there, right?
Well, the new version I got had the standard barcodes and such... but when I checked my older set, I noticed the discs had "11THHOURBETA" printed on the edge.
So. Um. I'm rather freaked out by the possibility that I own a BETA VERSION OF A GAME! Can anyone check their versions of the game? I have the original version which had all four CDs in a little book holder thing, not the later editions which had the game CDs on sleeves.

Cool man. I have a copy of the booklet version and my discs do not have anything like that at all. Wow, you may have a good find there :) This was one of my favorite games for a long while.

Well I'll be. I guess it's just another case of the Sniper luck.
I'm still rather surprised, why do I keep finding stuff like this? ^^;

Ah crapola, man, I'm sorry. This got me looking at another copy of this game I have and I finally did see what you were looking at. I wasn't looking in the inner ring for some reason :( Anyways, both copies do indeed have the message you said followed by 4RE and 3RE for the different version. I assume RE may mean revision but I have no idea. So sorry I didn't see that first. I just got back from traveling and this post got me excited as well.

Nah, it's okay, it just means I have to keep digging for another copy of the game to replace my faulty disc 4. :)
I don't think there were any serious revisions to the game. I compared the discs for the two versions I have, and the contents were the same. Perhaps the different names on the disc are related to what print they are (as in first, second, and so on.)
I think my 11THGUESTBETA copy of the game is probably the very first release... maybe even a review copy. The box says "Not For Resale" on a sticker where the UPC should be, anyway.

I checked out my copy of 11th Hour (also the "book" version), and my discs are also labelled "11THBETA1RE", and so on.

Strange.
Does your box say "Not For Resale"? I'm starting to think that both of us may own the very first printing of the game. :)

Would this get more views-help at Prototype Central thread?

No, I used to think this was a proto, but since Ze_ro has a copy that's just like mine, I really doubt it's the case. So we've probably just got a first printing. But thanks anyway. :)
This thread made me go dig out my release-day-purchased copy of the game. I had been following and awaiting the release of this game since it was first announced. Too bad it ended up being so terrible.
Yep, "BETA2RE" here as well.

Nope, all the packaging for my copy seems perfectly normal. No indications at all that it was anything other than a regular release. I should point out though that I'm not the first owner... I found it in a thrift store. If there was anything like stickers on shrinkwrap or whatever, then I have no way of knowing about it... although my copy does seem to be complete, with all kinds of flyers and junk in the box.
