You may know this better as the Dreamcast shooter, Radilgy.

And thank you, Wii, for being 100% BC with the Gamecube! :)

Thanks for the heads up, looks like we are blessed with yet another must have for the Gamecube. I dont mind a slow trickle of games, espically when they are like this

Did anyone ever figure out whether this game was actually worth anything as a shooter? You know, beyond the usual "OMG it's one o' dem SHMUPS, and blindly liking SHMUPS lets me pretend i'm a hardcore gamer!" vibe?

Its a fun enough shooter but its not as good as shikigami no shiro II was on the cube.
Radirgy is pretty easy when you do the first few levels but soon hots up, the shield system is pretty novel & once you master it. The game becomes more interesting as you start building up that multiplyer.

I've had this pre-ordered from Amazon (only Amazon and Gamecrazy will carry this) since October. You can find it by searching for "Radio Allergy". It has been delayed about 4 times since it's originally intended release date (back in November). The new O3 website mentions the existence of this title, but little else. There still is some debate on if this game will actually see a release.
Right now Amazon has a ship date of "4 to 6 weeks", which means "we have no fricken idea when it will ship".
I have this game for Dreamcast and it's fun cartoony shooter. Worth $20, but no more. It's still a mystery to me why the Gamecube is still getting all this SHMUP-love when they could just as easily have ported this to the PS2.

Its much better than Milestones Chaos Field. Milestone shooties are more score oriented so if you are not dedicated to playing for score it may hamper your enjoyment of their game. Its not the best but fair enough. Hopefully the US release will retain tate mode as verts are best enjoyed in their full glory.
I am getting "Radio Allergy" to support the genre being released in the US.

I was going to ask a question about whether there will be any new GameCube titles in 2007 (a recent Tips & Tricks issue has none listed in their pages of upcoming games) so now I know the answer to that.

Nice to hear there's another shooter (let alone any game) coming out for the Gamecube. If it's better than Chaos Field and has more to offer than continous boss battles, I'll probably get it. Chaos Field was really a letdown.
As for other GCN games, Super Paper Mario was supposedly on the horizon... though I wouldn't be surprised to hear that got moved to the Wii.

I looked at Amazon.com and someone's selling an import version and he's saying the U.S. version has been cancelled...of course, he could simply be trying to mislead people so he can make a sale...

That'd be my guess. AFAIK, it's still on schedule.
For the record, I'm a huge shmup fan and while I'll buy this no questions asked if it comes out, I can safely say you're not missing too much if it doesn't. I was really underwhelmed by this one.

Ok, I'll be honest. I got this one for the JPN PS2 ("Radilgy Precious") and I didn't care for it much. The cel graphics and mobile phone motif is pretty cool, but as for the gameplay it's just not for me. The scoring system, having to collect too much stuff, too much using the sword, too many meters to fill up. By all means though, if you like shooters and for $20 bucks, it's worth a try. Maybe you will enjoy it more than I did.

After thinking it over, I wasn't sure this game was for me. Thus, I have now cancelled my order for it. I could order it again if I hear great things about it but, for now, I don't feel I need it.

02-04-2007, 07:20 AM
Well, I sure hope you didn't cancel it on account of me. Even if I didn't exactly give the gameplay a vote of confidence, this is still the kind of release that I'd like to support and see more of (US publishers picking up niche JPN titles and selling them at a budget price). Just this one, in particular, didn't do it for me.

Well, I like this kind of game though it's not my favorite genre. And another said he was "underwhelmed" by it. Since it's only $20, though, I may decide to put it back on order, especifally since I'm trying to reach 100 titles in my GameCube library and I am currently at 78 (I think) so I still need to get 22 more. Well, 21, since I do have one coming that should be here in a day or two...
Well, I changed my mind (again) and have it on order again. I notice on Amazon's website, it says "First Come, First Served"...do they do this on all products or is this a sign that they will only get a limited number of copies?

Ok, now I gotta ask...does the Wii Compatible bit just mean it'll play on the Wii, or does it have a special control scheme for the Wii?
Mayhem
02-14-2007, 03:28 PM
Probably neither, it's just there so anyone who sees it on the shelf will be under no mistake they can play it on their Wii, even if they don't already own any Cube games already.
(a bit like way back when the C64GS launched with a bundle of new cartridges in 1990, and lots of people didn't realise they could actually use the things on their normal C64 computer. Hence the later boxes have little stickers on them saying they can be used on the normal C64 too!)

I don't know how they could add Wii specific controls and still make it backwards compatable with the GC. Plus, this came out in Japan pre-Wii so I'm guessing it's a straight port.
You'd be suprized how many people don't realize the Wii is GC compatable. I had to tell my friend who owned a Wii.

Bad news: Joystiq reports (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/02/19/radio-allergy-delayed-now-wii-compatible/) that the game's ship date has been delayed to March 20th.
(They're also late to the party with the "Wii compatible" thing.)

Yeah, I got a notice from Amazon.com (where I'd pre-ordered it) that it's been delayed. I've approved the delay (meaning this delay didn't cause me to cancel my order). I'm sure I can find something to play while I'm waiting... :-/

I think they would just do two versions on one disc, I'm sure most of the files could be cross-linked. It would be like the Burger King games for both Xbox and Xbox 360.

Yeah, but if they did, I guarantee it wouldn't be a budget title. There'd be more to it than just slapping new controls in.
Aside from that, I truly fear the way precision gaming can be ruined by tacking on unnecessary Wii controls. *glares at Metal Slug Anthology*

So I guess the numerous delays were just to bide some time while O~3 tried to sell this to retailers. You would think the pre-orders on Amazon or a budget title deal with Walmart would be enough for a small printing. This sucks.

It'd be nice to see a compilation released...but on Wii? Ugh, it'd be a miracle if those games made it through unscathed and unhindered by a remarkably horrible control scheme.
Sucks the gamecube port got the axe :\ It wasn't as good as Karous, but it was still a pretty snazzy game.

Yep.
Here's hoping that the novelty of the Wiimote has worn off enough that if this happens (not holding my breath) you won't have to control your ship by waving your arms around like an idiot.
<-- still bitter about Metal Slug Anthology (though I have learned to live with the less than perfect GC controller option.)
