Funny how these seem to run here, but I want to know who has one of these suckers and how many of you have a six switcher as well? Just wanted to know as sometimes I just feel alone outside of the Atari forums is all.

I have two. Both are six switchers. I don't play them as often as I would like because of my recent addiction to the Nintendo DS and Sega Saturn. Without a doubt it's a very fun enjoyable system, and I love the very active home brew community. Speaking of that I need to buy one of those home brew games. I know a lot of people who own Atari 2600 systems on other forums so you are not alone :).

By the way, awesome avatar.

I have like 8 of them. I'm finding that the power box is more rare than the system itself. I have two Darth Vaders, three Woodies(one in box!), two sixers and a sears brand. Regulars sixers, not heavy sixers mind you. I've never seen a heavy sixer in person. I've seen pictures if that counts...

You'll find that many people have them. It's been awhile since I counted all the ones that I have... One Atari 2600 JR, One Atari 2600 DVM, Three 4 switch models (Butchered some of them for modding) and two Six switch systems, One that does not work.

I also have something like 110 - 130 Atari 2600 games... I don't know the exact number.

I have a jr and a busted 4 switch. I gave away a few over the years, since I figured I didn't need so many...my parents now have a 4 switch and a bunch of games, and I gave away another one I had to a friend for a birthday gift with a bunch of games...anotehr friend I sold one two with a bunch of games.

Basically if I have a spare 2600 it's an opportunity for me to get rid of doubles.

I have one and about 20 games for it. I'm not sure if it's a 6er though. I'll check when I get home. I've never been a VCS collector. I grew up with the INTV so I picked the 2600 up to see what I missed. Kaboom is a blast!!

I'm sure nearly all of the long time users here have an Atari 2600. I had one for many years before giving it, and my entire game library, to a fellow I know who had fallen on hard times. Too long of a story to explain. He needed it much worse than I did. The guy basically lost his job and had to get rid of nearly his entire dvd, cd and game collection to recoup.

This entire web site was built around consoles like the Atari 2600 and the majority of the contributors who helped make the page what it is have a great appreciation for that system and others from the same era. It is easy to forget that, though, given all the threads talking about X-Box 360 and Playstation 2 in the various forums (particularly Buy/Sell).

It's nice to see people that still play these things. I had some fun awhile back when I was able to design the BERZERK ARCADE label. A dude hacked it so that it would look and act more like the arcade version did. Was a fun little project for me. I will also be doing the label art for Invader X for the 2600. I just find it a blast to know that there are still fans out there.

I have a Heavy Sixer, a Light Sixer, a Darth Vader, three 2600 Jr's, and a Gemini (Strangely enough, I don't have a regular 4-switch, despite it being the most common model!). I have somewhere around 200 games for the system too. It's probably my favorite system of all time... although I don't play it as often as I used to, and finding new games for it is tough. It seems the 2600 is too old even for the thrift stores nowadays :(

I had one until about 1987, when it finally gave up the ghost (it was a four switch, btw). After that I got a 7800... which I unfortunately no longer have either.

So, where do you guys pick up your games at? Outside of Atari Age that is. I am just seeing if there is another alternative to it that has as good of a selection without all the politics.

I have several, two Jrs(one short and one long rainbow), A sears Telegames 2600 modded, A heavy sixer, a vader, and a couple of others. I have about 350 games for it as well. Nothing special, but I did have some protos of some data age games including Secret Agent. I sold them to help with a down payment on my new house

I've got a six switch, a four switch, a Vader, and several Jr's (short label, long label, and a boxed one). I think at last count I had around 150 games.

BTW T2KFreeker, I hope you have better luck with the Invader X label than I did. I actually won a contest and had my design picked for the Invader X label. That was back in the spring of 2004 (coming up on three years now). I was really excited about having my design printed on a real Atari cartridge, but after a couple of years of e-mailing neotokeo2001 and never getting a response I gave up ever on getting the winning cart.

All I have is a Jr. stuffed in a drawer with about 15 games.

Wouldn't mind buying a big box of random games for cheap and keeping what I enjoyed :)

I had three, sent them to a DP member to get modded, then somehow they got "lost in the mail" on the return. Now I have a 2600jr. It's not the best, but it will do in a pinch!

I think i still have the 6 switcher that i've had since i was 3. It's one of the few gaming items i still have reason to keep around despite it being against my rule of not keeping things just for the sake of being a pack rat.

I'm willing to bet damn near everyone here has one too. The 2600 and yardsales are truly the gateway drugs to this aspect of gaming. Maybe it's just me, but i've entertained the idea of getting 2600s and a smattering of games specifically for the purpose of selling them cheaply at the yearly city-wide yardsales, just to keep that magic alive.

Right, you'll find that almost everyone here on DP owns a 2600 or other such 2600 variant/compatible.

... Why are you finding it such a surprise that theres 2600 fans on a board dedicated to such nonsense? :)

In any case, I used to have a 2600 Darth Vader Model.. a 2600 Jr, and a 7800. Used to play Mountain King a LOT Aswell as Carnival, and Frogger were my more played games.

I don't own one. I was a part of the NES generation (it was my first gaming console), and I'm not really too nostalgic for anything before that. However, I do have a appreciation for some of the best games on the 2600 - my favorites are Pitfall!, River Raid, and Adventure.

I'm content with getting my 2600 fix on the two PS2 compilations I own: Atari Anthology and Activision Anthology. I know that I'm missing out on a number of good titles that aren't available on either disc, but I'm okay with that. I'm not sure if I'll ever get an actual 2600 - if I do, it'll probably be either because I got it free or as a gift, or got a really amazing deal on a bundle at a yard sale/thrift/etc.

I don't know the exact number, but I've hoarded quite a few of them. Here's a picture from my garage, taken about a year ago:

http://videogamecollectors.com/albums/The_Pantechnicon/IMG_0094.sized.jpg

Notice the Sears Arcade II - a somewhat rare variant - stacked on top. I also have something like two Coleco Geminis, 1 heavy-sixer, 3 regular sixers (including a Telegames version), 2 Vaders, 2 or 3 4-switchers, 2 short-rainbow and 2 long-rainbow juniors. One of my Jrs is A/V modded, and another one is autographed by Joe DeCuir.

My cart collection for this system is just under 300 titles. Suffice to say it's my favorite. This last Christmas officially marks 25 years since getting my first 2600: in effect, my silver anniversary as a gamer. I have no intention of letting up.

I have 14 of them, various models and makes. I'm missing a Heavy Sixer though thats one of the ones I want but haven't been actively hunting for. I do have an S-Video modded one though. I think I'm up to around 160 games for the the system.

I have 2 4 switches, one boxed, and I had a Jr. that I dumped maybe 6 months ago. I took it apart, the belt was a mess. I had 49 CIB games and many, many loose games and have been in the process of selling it off (The rest of the games are in my for sale thread now, the systems stay so I can test the games, then they go). I'm only 22, so I grew up on the NES. Sold a boxed INTY with 6 CIB games not too long ago too, they just don't hold the nostalgia for me that my NES does.

12-30-2006, 03:46 PM
I think I owned four at one point. Then slowly over the years I gave them away to friends, just keeping my original. Much to my display I lost the power supply during a move, and when I ordered a replacement, I found the system no longer works. :/ I just use my 7800, although I'll definitely pick up another 2600 (or several) at some point.

I got most of my 2600 games at yard sales many years ago, although I've picked up a few games here and there at Game Traders (in Flea World), and ordered one cart on eBay.

As someone mentioned earlier, this organization was FOUNDED by avid 2600 fans. You can be sure most all of the regulars here own the system and lots of games. Personally I've got at LEAST a heavy sixer, a Jr, a Gemini and an AV-modded 6 switch. Many many more variations at the store.

For the record, Atari 2600 and its games sell pretty well at the store as well. It's usually a novelty-type gift for dad or grandpa but countless customers stop at the 2600 display and proclaim their love and "this was my first system" etc.

From the Intellivision FAQ

Intellivision II system

This unit contained a revised ROM which was necessary for the System Changer (more on that later), but also caused incompatibilities with certain Coleco games (Donkey Kong, Mouse Trap, and Carnival) and some Mattel games (Word Fun, Shark Shark).

(actually, the Inty II was intentionally designed to lock out 3rd-party titles:
http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/intvmaster2.htm

...what would happen if you plugged your 2600 System Changer into an un-modified Intellivision I?

An unmodified Master Component (unmodified meaning sans video upgrade), when turned on with this unit plugged in, reads "M-Network" on the title screen. You can hear all the sounds from the 2600 game you have inserted, but no video is displayed, other than this title screen. Ever try playing Blind Combat?
Thanx' for the info here. That is some awesome stuff to know. I guess that I do still need to hunt down a Intellivision 2 system
