View Full Version : What is a fair price for a Pippin?
Today I was going through some old video game magazines, and I came across an article for the Pippin. Right after reading it, I looked it up on ebay, and could only find one listed. Altogether, the price would be around $275. Then, I looked it up on the Yahoo Japan auction site, and found it for 1,100 yen :o. Isn't that about $10?
I would really like to get one of these systems. Does anyone know what they usually go for? I don't want to get ripped off by paying about $300 if they usually go for much lower. Help!

Less than $10 like $8.50 or something like that. I say go for the cheap Pippin but be prepared to pay $50 for shipping.

The problem with those Yahoo Japan guys is that they NEVER sell internationally. When I lived in Japan, I had the opportunity of buying low on Yahoo Japan and selling high on Ebay. I don't think they get it. If the sell it on Ebay they can quadruple their money (or more in this situation). Crazy Japanese! x_x
So, chances are if you are looking at Yahoo Japan Auctions, you're just dreaming.... unless of course, you have a connection over there who you can ship it to.
But, be patient and you can probably find one for a little less... Good luck!

well, last week, a boxed mint one went for $128.50 or something like that from a u.s. seller- i was bidding on it, but i opted to back out and grab a bunch of mega-cd games instead. i actually thought it would go for a lot more, as you don't often see them on e-beg...
as for that 1100 yen model, yup- good luck on hooking up a japanese connection. it's not too impossible to do, though (that's now i got a good deal of my stuff)... :-D

y'know- i asked one seller i deal with about that, and she told me that a lot the folks use yahoo because they don't want to ship internationally and deal with people who want to haggle for cheap shipping and, free extra stuff and discounts. it's easier to sell to the guy down the road who speaks the language, if you think about it. she's sold itmes on both sites, and while she made more on ebay, she's also had more non-payers, dumb questions to answer (i've "translated" some odd requests for her in the past), and really anal collectors pestering her for stuff like extra spine cards and hentai games. hell, i'd be loading up a 30-aught and getting on a bus after two deadbeat bidders, lol... ;)

If you can get one for under $200 you're doing just fine, but be SURE that it's complete. Both the Japanese (white) and US (black) models came with a ton of "stuff". The US models are much harder to find as well.
I've owned one for quite awhile and all I have to say is GOOD LUCK FINDING SOFTWARE. To date I still have only one game (Gundam) for the system, and it wasn't cheap.

I guess it is just the "Economics major" in me talking... more sellers = higher demand. I know part of it is the language for some people, and part of it is just the mentality of the Japanese. Hey, whatever works for people. I don't understand why some people on Ebay only sell to the U.S. I know that there are hassles to deal with when you have more bidders and international mail, Paypal and registered addresses, etc. But, to me it just makes more sense. Then again, I have only had one deadbeat bidder so far.
As for the anal collectors... You better watch what you say here. ;)
Does anyone know if Ebay Japan every came back? It died about a year and a half ago, and Yahoo Auctions is still going strong. It's strange because I think that they Yahoo Japan commissions are higher.
Thanks for the information.
I think I will skip the one for sale now on ebay

It came with the box and some stuff, but it still wasn't complete. I guess it costs too much too...
How often are these things listed on ebay? And gamergary where do you find these for less than $10?
