The day after Xmas I got the Japanese import version of Motorstorm in the mail, from Play Asia. The game was $59.10 and $3.90 shipping. ( went with the cheapo economy air bubble mailer shipping). I didn't play it Tuesday, because I was setting up my Nintendo Wii and experiencing that for the first time, and I ran out of time. But last nite, I finally got the opportunity to pop Motorstorm into my PS3 and fire up my projector.

The game is absolutely FANTASTIC! Sure, it's not the completely final USA version, it doesn't have the online play, but I'm sure it's basically the final game just minus the online play. All the tracks are there, all the vehicle types, etc, etc. I've been racing around that one track in the demo since the first day I opened my PS3 box and hooked it up for the first time. I'd have to guess that every single time I've turned on my PS3, I've played that Motorstorm demo. Even though it's the same track, I never got bored of it, just because I think the game is so fun. Well, getting the full game, and being able to race these other tracks and also use all the different vehicles is positively amazing!

So the USA version comes out sometime in March. It could be said that I wasted $63 on this Japanese import, but the fact is, from December 27th to the day of release, I will have played the import version every single day. I will be ripping around every track, with every vehicle. So I figure I'll get my money's worth for the import version. Especially considering how lackluster the PS3's launch titles in general are. It's widely believed that Resistance is the only "real" reason to own a PS3, but actually I think the import version of Motorstorm blows Resistance out of the water. It's not even close. Playing the import version of Motorstorm, I can actually understand the meaning behind all the hype of the PS3. Motorstorm, being a game that was available a mere month after the system launched in Japan is testimony to Sony's vision.

I BELIEVE

just kidding, lol. No seriously though. Motorstorm is pretty damn pimp. The USA version with online play is going to be even more enjoyable. I can't wait!

Looking forward to play this game myself :) Is there a good speed feeling in the game? I mean, does it feel like you drive fast?

The game is rather bland. :(

Sorry to say it. But it is BEAUTIFUL... but gameplay is mediocre and the online is so limited at this point...

I'm talkin about the US version. It's pretty much done, just going through tweaking...

I have a few friends doing testing on the game.

I've been playing the demo in store every chance I get and I must admit I love this game. It's good to hear that it has staying power. I have wrecked at least 200 times in this game and it STILL hasn't gotten old.

So mark, are you saying that waiting for the US edition w/ online play will not be worth the wait? why is it bland online, because of limited options? I would like to know because I am holding off on buying the import so that I can play online w/ the US version.

I am really tempted to import this game, march is still a long ways away, and IDK how long I will be playing resistance (although I like it alot)

How much money do you think I could get for motorstorm import version on ebay say like 2-3 weeks before the US version release?

Well, all I know is it has all the tracks and all the vehicles. As far as having a bunch of different modes, I really don't care that much about having all these different modes. Take a game like F-Zero for SNES. How many modes did F-Zero have? It was all about racing around the tracks and seeing if you could win the race or not. Fuck all the bullshit modes. I mean, don't get it twisted, if somebody wants to put some extra modes in a game fine, but if it's a racing game, I just need the tracks, the vehicles, and I'm pretty much set. No online play does hurt, but beggars can't be choosers at this point. The US version will have online play, and I'll probably get that as well. Sure, I'm way overspending for Motorstorm by doing that, but fuck it, shit happens. The PS3 launch lineup is horrid, and it results in desperate measures for a gamer trying to get his game on!
