I have Xmas money burning in my pocket, and while half of me is telling me to save it and use it when I really need to, the other half of me is telling me to spend spend spend!

I have 360, Wii, PS3, so those choices are out the window. I own a DS, however I have been thinking of getting a DS lite.

Now, I am not a HUGE DS player, I play sometimes, usualy only when I buy a new game (Like I just bought castlevania portrait of ruin and am playing it alot now), but I have a feeling if I get a Lite it might make me want to go back and play all of my older DS games again, and make me want to buy new games.

Is the lite really that awsome that it warrants the $130 price? I mean I like the fact that is smaller and will fit in my pocket easier (the original is quite bulky) and I like the brighter screens, but is this enough? I heard the white Lite starts to yellow (like a SNES) not too long after you start to use it.

I am the proud owner of a gameboy micro, and I love the damn thing becuase of its sleek (and cute) design, but is it really necessary for me to buy a lite?

The money saver in me is saying to buy a lite and sell my original DS to make back some money (whats the trade in credit for this at gamestop now anyway? I would probably just sell it on ebay..) and the collector in me is saying keep the original (although I know I will never use it again if I get a lite).

So tell me Lite owners, were you happy w/ your lite purchase even after owning an original DS? or should I put my money to better use and hope for a price drop on Lites in the year to come?

I just gave my original DS to my Cousin for Christmas and bought myself a DS-Lite

I really like it, it's incredibly sleek, the screen is a huge different compared to the Original DS, also seems to be more colourful and vibrant, the buttons feel very responsive and just generally I really like it even compared to the Original DS

I also really like how you can change the brightness settings though my main complaint is that Gameboy Advanced Games Stick out a little bit, it's not major but it's still annoying.

All in All I am very happy with my purchase, it's a great upgrade from the Original DS.

You'll see details in your games you didn't even know were there. The screens are just incredible. The smaller buttons and d-pad do annoy me a bit, but they're still functional. Besides, you can always dump your original DS on eBay and the price point will be a lot easier to swallow.

I've never heard of any yellowing problems.

Although I don't have one, I say sell your original DS and buy a DS Lite. (I haven't heard of the yellowing problem, But just to be safe buy a black DS Lite)

Sell your bulky one and pick up a lite, it's well worth the $130. I only have 1 friend with the original and boy does it look wierd when everyone else has a slim, cute DS lite and he's got this huge, bulky, monster looking thing.

Keep your original; there will always be times when you want to play multiplayer and no one will have a DS. Lite is worth picking up because the screen is so much better and it's small enough to fit in your pocket easily.

I do like the fact that the DS Lite is smaller and more portable. I usually just throw it in my coat pocket and pull it out here and there to play. it comes in especially handy when I have to wait like for an oil change or a doctor's appoitnment or whatever. I agree you should keep your original for multiplayer gaming.

good luck buying one, there's a shortage of the things. There are more ps3 units in stores than DS'

not at all, I see DS-lites in stores and haven't seen one PS3 for sale yet, DS-lite is alot easier to get at least around here.

crazy. In NH there are PS3's all over the place but not a DS to be found. None of the online stores have them either!

Hey Pete, I say get the DS Lite. It is that amazing. You may consider selling the fat DS, but I kept mine - for two reasons.

The first is homebrew, I have not upgraded to homebrew on the DS Lite yet. I also keep my fat DS around for multiplayer DS action. But thats just me.

It's not necessary if you've got an original DS, it's just damn preferable. If you love the Micro, then chances are you'll love the Lite too, and it's a more justifiable purchase IMO. You're not sacrificing screen size, the screen is really hellaciously brighter, and just the design of the thing itself is nice -- taking out the stylus is much easier because of where it's situated, etc.

Oh, and I've had mine since launch and it's as white as the day I bought it.

I'm not a huge DS player anymore, lately, but I'm really glad I sprung for the Lite. And yes, I owned an original DS as well. So I say wait for a price drop if you have to, but definitely get this.

I love my DS Lite. Not only is the screen much brighter, but the ABXY buttons are much more comfortable imo.

IMO the lite fixes everything that was wrong with the original, better comfort, brighter screen, lighter, just easier to deal with in general.

I own a lite and an original, but only because I have the limited Nintendogs edition. If you just have a regular DS I'd say dump it to getthe lite. Since it's not rare or anything the collector in you can always buy and original again down the line for dirt cheap.

Really if you have a lite the only reason to keep a normal fat would be if there is someone else close to you that also really enjoys playing it.

OK thanks guys I think I am going to buy one and sell my original DS on ebay since I dont have many friends that stop by to play DS w/ me anyway. I am gonna sell it w/ the box and charger (and all inserts without metroid demo) on ebay, and looking at the selling prices it looks like I can get $90-$100 for it so my Lite will end up costing me no more than $50 tops.

I was going to go and pick a DS lite up today but I called 2 gamestops, a wal mart, and a best buy (all the places on the way when I go out today) and none of them have DS lites in stock. Apparently it is like this all over since the holidays, and tracking down a DS lite is now harder than finding a PS3.....go figure, I am not gonna let it bother me and I will just wait until they are readily back in stores, I dont want this feeling like another system launch all over.
