Ooh, a nice rarity we have here. Apparently, a Madden NFL 2007 disc was mis-pressed at the factory.

It sounds like it's one of a kind, and due to the unique nature of this item, it could pull in some big bucks on eBay. I want it!

I find this story extremely fishy.

What normal, straight, 14-year-old kid wouldn't go to extreme lengths to hide porn from his parents. I had a stack of Playboy's under my matress, when I was that age.

And the Internet Crime task force? What does this game have to do with internet crimes?

And they wait a week to report this??? Hmmmmmmm........

"This is definitely not Madden," he said recalling his first thought after seeing the image.

I would hope not! Yeesh.

Honestly, the story seems like a load of garbage to me. They don't even bother giving any proof besides the kid saying he saw some kind of pornography while loading up the disc and, of course, "This is definitley not Madden".

And yes, it's VERY doubtful that a normal kid his age would tell his parents that he got porn instead of Madden.

Stupid kid. What he needed to do was rent that baby out to his friends for five bucks a night.

"Gee, your friends sure seem to like that Madden Football Simulation game of yours!"

Heh I read on the vg cat boards how a 12 year old little girl got porn preloaded on her brand new zune. Sounds like rogue pranksters.

I had the same thing happen. I bought Armored Core 2 for PS2, everything was fine, even the disc art, but I popped it in, and Mel Gibson's "The Patriot" started playing. Hahah.

More of this needs to be done to EA games.

EDIT:Are they stupid?

The Mahoneys aren't looking for a financial settlement, and only want a new Madden NFL 07 video game and a guarantee that no more games containing porn are sold. "We don't want anyone else exposed to it," Linda Mahoney said.

4 Years ago when i worked at EB there was a guy who bought a ps2 game only to return it later because some movie was on it and not the game. I didn't believe him and played the disc in the kiosk and well..a movie popped up and not the actual game. Artwork and everything was on the game.

Obviously there was a mix up at the printing factory. I think on of my old co-workers has the disc actually. Ill have to ask her next time I see her.

Poor kid. He was all excited about watching some sweaty next-gen footballers toss around the pigskin, but instead he got porn!

Actually, from the description there's no indication WHAT sort of porn it was, so it indeed could have been something highly unwanted, even for a teenager ;)

This part of the story caught my eye just as it does from time to time when the same word is used:

"We'll give it a shot. I would go through the roof if this happened to my kid. Whoever did this is a complete and utter coward."

"Coward," alongside "ironic" and "literally" has to be among the most misused words in the English language. Someone could be described as many things for intentionally slipping porn onto a video game disc, but cowardly would be one of the poorest adjectives to use. I'm about 99% sure this was a legitimate misprint and not a deliberate ploy to put porn into the hands of a kid, but to insinuate that someone is a 'coward' for doing so is pretty boneheaded.

1. a person who lacks courage in facing danger, difficulty, opposition, pain, etc.; a timid or easily intimidated person.

That doesn't exactly sound like the type of person that would risk their job and their freedom by inserting one type of hot, sweaty action involving men for another type of hot sweaty man-action. Usually true-crime shows and articles seem to be the worst offenders in the misuse of the word 'coward.'

That would be a hella cool "variant" to have in the collection though

Sounds like he got a better deal than everyone else who bought Madden 07.

LOL @ the use of the word "coward".

That really sounds like something one of those fake news story sites would come up with. I dunno, I suppose it could happen, but I'm skeptical.

Touche.

Didn't think of that... But there are still alot of oddities to this story.

And you just brought up a terrific one.

I think there's something we're all forgetting about this. Coming direct from someones comment on gamepolitics.com.

"Well, this is utah, so when they say “porn” they might mean “you can see the cheerleader’s ankles”.

I love how the morons say CC is to blame. CC gets 200 of these in a big box and puts them in a case and they are all sealed. If i was CC I'd pass the buck too, CC didn't print the disk.

The one at fault is the printing company. And this printing company is very likely a small outfit somewhere whose business is printing multiple types of media from music, movies and games. A simple case of operator error. I am sure that their procedure is to pretty much check the first and last of each run and assume that the rest are ok or maybe even check only at the start of the shift and after lunch. Lets factor in that this is madden - the #1 selling game in the US and pressure may be on the operator to get is prod numbers and they might have forgotten to check their parts in fear of falling behind and getting wrote up. Manufacturing is a shitty job and quantity is always placed over quality.

maybe someone bought the game, changed the CD, resealed it and put it back to the shelf ? there are people that do stuff like that, they just dont put porn images on it so that it appears in the next newspaper.

When I was working at EB, there was a Madden 05 for PS2 that had a blank disc inside it. The guy actually opened it in the store, and it was just the layers of plastic with the printed numbers & letter on the inner ring... no artwork, no "info" layer- just a clear plastic ring.

I had a similar mix-up with a Dreamcast game I bought. I bought a copy of Jeremy McGrath Motocross on clearance and while the box and disk art said that it was McGrath, the game tuned out to be Crazy Taxi 2. Everyone says thst I got the better pat of the deal.

I saw this on the news lastnight and they made it seem like the actual game had porn in it, oh how some children of america were saddend my that misinformation. The entire thing does seem pretty fishy tho, since kids do love porn and any normal kid (boy or girl) would've locked their door to watch it atleast once. Instead we have this kid running to his parents within the first 20 seconds, now that there is a coward.

Well now I feel stupid wanking it to just plain ol' Madden.

There have been known lots of known cases of mislabeled games; I myself got a Space Invaders Atari cart as a kid that turned out to be Bowling. A lot of times this happens between production runs (old games are burned onto new art discs). I have a "hard" time (pun intended) believing that the same place that makes X360 games also presses porn movies.
