The guys who did Beats of Rage and are working on Age of the Beast have announce today that they are working on a game called Rush Rally Racing. They say that it will initially be on the Dreamcast.

From the Senile Team site:

"About
Rush Rush Rally Racing, or R4, for short, is a true old-school racing game. No sponsored cars, no realistic environments - just plain old fun!

So start burning rubber, let the competition eat your dust, and take to the open road!

How to get it
We are currently talking to The GOAT Store about publishing R4."

I for one can't wait, but I still really want Age of the Beast: Special Edition too!

Man, I was hoping this was an announcement for Age of the Beast. Rush Ralley looks like fun though!

Looks similar to Racing Gears. I look forward to it.

Nice. I am sure that Dan will publish the game for these guys too. I love what Goat Store has published thus far, especially Feet Of Fury, which was a pleasant surprise indeed.

Looks great! I always liked Power Drive Rally on the Jaguar, but sometimes wished there were more cars on the track.

This game looks like it will have many vehicles. . .though I hope there's more than just the same car, with a few different colors available. Would be nice to see some varied car models/designs.

Just nit-picking, though. If the game plays well, I'm very interested.

Yeah, when I was hearing about the surprise they were going to have around New Year's I thought for sure it would've been an Age of the Beast demo. This is still good news, but they're going to finish this game before going back to work on Age of the Beast, so it's gonna be awhile before we see that game. They're hoping to get Rush Rally finished in time for summer. I'm sure both games will be worth the wait though.

This one looks fun. For anyone who has previous experience with the Dreamcast games from these publishers, how much do you think it will set us back?

Yes this looks really nice. If it not really overpriced for some reason i'll get one :)

Cool Herders and Feet Of Fury were both $19.90 at release and Inhabitants and Maquipai wer $14.90. Someone asked Dan Loosen if future games would all be approximately the same price (they have a pretty long list of games in development for release over the next couple years) and he said he didn't see why not. I think he mentioned that some might creep slightly over $20, but would probably not be more than $25 anyway.

If this game turns out as nicely as it looks so far, I'd jump at the chance to spend $25 for it. Hell, I'd spend quite a bit more than that, especially if they get the sliding and handling physics right and double-especially if they give the game all sorts of the little graphical touches that make Power Drive Rally so great. Man, if they do it right, this could be one of my favorite Dreamcast games, period.

Hopefully they can stick to schedule and get it out in good time. GOAT Publishing games don't have such a fabulous track record in that area. We're still waiting on GOAT Games Vol. 1 and not much substance has shown up on really *ANY* of the other games they've announced.

That sounds exciting. Honestly, some of the homebrew games for a lot of systems were never enticing. At least not all the puzzle games, strategy games, kids games, rpg's or improved/modified versions of games already released on the system. A racing game, though, should be a treat. I just wish there were a few more shooters, fighting games or even sports games that were getting done via the homebrew scene for a recent system (16-bit and up).

Will I need to mod the Dreamcast I own to play it, though? Why is it getting all the comparisons to Power Drive Rally on Jaguar (two this thread)? I understand it pretty much looks the same and will probably play the same but are the developers people who worked on PDR or are they actually making this game based on that one?

Did you hear about Last Hope? It's a very nice looking homebrew shooter that's coming out on the Dreamcast sometime this month (according to the pre-order page at Play-Asia). It was released as a Neo-Geo cart a few months ago and there's supposed to be a Neo Geo CD release eventually, too, but I haven't heard much about that version.

99% of Dreamcasts require no modification to play these releases. If your DC can play burned games (pirate or homebrew) it can play these commercial releases. If you've never tried you could test your system with one of the images available here:

http://dreamcast.dcemu.co.uk/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi

There's very little chance that you have a DC not capable of playing these discs, though.

No, there's no direct connection between Power Drive Rally and Rush Rush that I know of. Power Drive Rally was just the first thing that jumped into my head when I saw the screenshots, even before I saw that someone else mentioned it, too. Probably because Power Drive is my favorite top down racer of all time and pretty much the only game I miss from the Jaguar collection I sold. Someone on Senile Team's forum mentioned the Genesis game Combat Cars as a comparison, too.

There are going to be a lot of homebrew games eventually making their way to the Dreamcast. Some of the shooters I've heard of in the works for it are Drill, R3K, and Feuer Frei. And for beat-em ups there will be Yumi: Samurai Warrior, and Age of the Beast: Special Edition.

Here are some vids of Age of the Beast in action:

I would gladly plop down $50 for that game. :)

A little off topic, but I recently got Feet of Fury and Cool Herders in the mail. These are my first commercial homebrews, and I have to say that the quality exceeded my expectations. Everything looks very professional and was well worth the money I spent. I definitely plan on eventually buying every game GOAT publishing produces.

i just wanted something more original. This games seems to me like the old arcade rally games, like neo drift or neo drift out.

Original, schmuriginal. I just hope it's good.

If it's as good as the old arcade rally games you mention like Neo Drift Out or 1000 Mile Rally (mmm, thank God for MAME), I'll be ecstatic.

wait a second here. I'm new to these forums and don't know much about dreamcast but they are still making dreamcast games? I just found my old dreamcast yesterday and was thinking about firing that bad boy up.

They are being made by independent developers and mainly sold on the internet. So you can't just walk into a Walmart and buy them or a video store and rent them. However, new games are still getting made for Dreamcast and getting good reviews.

Visit www.goatstore.com and I think you'll find some information there.

For me, like Sweater Fish, it was just the first game that popped into my head. Rally racing, top down - or maybe 3/4 perspective (whatever the more accurate term would be), plays and looks great. If this new Dreamcast game can approach that, I will be quite pleased. :)

Yes they are still making games for the DC and not all are homebrew. There are at least 2 more games coming from milestone who last year brought out Radigy and Under defeat for the DC. I honestly think that some of their games are the best games for the DC. Under Defeat is just awesome.

Only Radilgy and Karous are from Milestone. Other companies know how to spell the names of their games properly. G.Rev did Under Defeat and Trigger Heart is from Warashi.

Mm-hm. There definitely seems to be no slacking off of licensed Dreamcast releases.

Though I think that when you really start looking at them, there's not much difference between the "development houses" making these shooters in Japan and the "homebrew groups" like Senile Team and Cryptic Allusion who are making the the Dreamcast games in the West. Both are tiny groups of friends, with little or no outside funding, mostly working in their spare time. The main difference is that the Japanese groups are using the official devkit while the Western groups are mostly using KOS or no devkit at all in the case of Senile Team. The fact that the games coming out of Japan are licensed and on GD discs is really only because of the insularity of Japanese society, Sega gives a group like Milestone more access than they'd give Senile Team for no reason other than that Milestone is Japanese.

The GOAT Store actually doesn't like people to refer to their Dreamcast releases as "homebrew," they prefer "independent," which is exactly what G.Rev and Milestone and Triangle Service are as well. It's semantics and not important in my opinion, but it is a valid point.

Considering how far along they are, I think that this game could potentially be released this summer. It just keeps looking better and better. :)

I just find it so cool that people, including American independent workers like this group, are still making games for a system that has been practically dead for the past 6 or 7 years. I hope this trend keeps up for a long time.

I think a summer release is what most people are assuming and maybe even what someone with Senile Team or the GOAT Store has officially said if I recall correctly. I personally wouldn't count on it, though. If Senile Team is still releasing new screenshots that can wow us like these, then I think they probably have quite a bit of development time ahead of them for the game since at least 1/2 of the development time (especially for homebrews) is bug-fixing, tweaking and polishing where each new set of screenshots they release will look pretty much identical to the last ones they released.

No matter. I'm still looking forward to it. If it comes out in the Summer, I'll be ecstatic. If it's not until Fall or Winter, maybe even into 2008, I won't be surprised, though. I just hope it's before the GOAT Store gives up on releasing Dreamcast games because I'd really like to have a nice pressed copy of Rush Rush for sure.
