You might have - I dunno. But this is the final version, which just came out - not an incomplete beta.

WOW! This remake is really great. As a matter of fact, this may be the best game of its kind I've ever seen or played. It blows Beats of Rage & the like totally out of the water. I wish someone would port this to DC or XBox. It deserves to be played in my living room.

To add to what I said above, I would gladly pay for a DC port of this. The amount of options for game customization is excellent, the remixed tunes are perfect, and the timing actually feels like a real SOR title. One of the best homebrews I have ever played.

Whew! Glad I snagged a copy before the site crashed!

I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed. It's a lot fun and plays quite well with my MS Sidewinder controller.

I would like to see, however:

Updated voice samples.

The original character portraits. The new ones are....not quite as good.

Adam looks..out of place compared to the others. I know he's a custom job..but at least spruce up the colors on the other character sprites.

I'm just being nit picky. They did a great job and it's a lotta fun to play. Kudos!

The site is working for me, but I could put the ZIP file up on Megaupload or similar site...

Pretty fun remix of the game. It makes me even a bit sadder that no SoR games were on the Genesis Collection on PS2.

Hmmm, you're right. Not sure what's going on there. I remember reading that this was the final version.

BTW, the site is back up and the download seems to be working again. I can't wait to try this when I get back to my own PC over the weekend.

EDIT: The message board for the game says this:

"With the game almost completed, I can say SorR will be launched on 31 DECEMBER 2006 (official and definitive release date)"

So I'm not sure why the filename still has "beta" in it.

Playing it, I would say probably not. Not only is it programmed for an entirely different platform, but the music is not the original MD chip tunes & there are some effects that the old 16-bitter couldn't do.

On a side note, I love the fact that they put the cut motorcycle stage in there. Very cool.

Downloaded and tested, it's awesome!

I really like how you can set different engine options (I normally set everything to SOR3 since that's my favorite SOR).
The different paths really add a lot of replay value and variety, something a lot of Beat 'em up games lack.
A lot of effort went also into remaking new sprites for older enemies and characters and also into the backgrounds and remixed music.
A must have for beat 'em up fans.

1)Download zip using your favorite web browser. Place zip in desired location on either your HDD or external media.

2)Open ZIP file with a compression/decompression program like WinZip or WinRar.

3)Extract visible folder to location of choosing.

4)Scan for viruses.

5)Open folder.

6)Drag mouse to desired file, this case called "SorR.EXE".

7)Choose the file by double clicking on the left mouse button. This will "activate" or "run" the game.

8)Play game.

I just spent about 3 hours last night playing this, and Its nothing short of amazing for a fan project. within seconds I felt like I was playing one of the original games, the controls are spot on, aside from mediocre (ok bad) fan artish cutscenes, it is an amazing remake of one of my favorate series, they took all the good aspects of all 3 games and mixed them together, along with some features borrowed from gaurdian heroes (the ONLY reason to own a saturn) I love the branching levels and the cpu controlled partner, it even has unlockables and hidden fun stuff (cody from final fight!) If you ever enjoyed streets of rage back in the day, you NEED to download this.

I, too, enjoyed the shit out of V4 and I'm really liking this one as well. I actually liked the opening intro and really like the cutscenes as I don't think they look fanboyish at all. They seem to fit perfectly in with the graphics of the game. Some of my nitpicks are:

-Game seems a bit hard even on easy!
-Jetski level is kind of frustrating...
-Although I love the shop, I think the prices for the item are a bit high compared to how much points you can accumulate in one playthrough....
-Thankfully, I just read that they (Bomberlink specifically) will tweak the difficulties as well as issues with the jetski level when they release the Linux port soon...

Beyond that, I am loving the game and it truly is an awesome package....

Blitzwing256
04-05-2011, 01:05 PM
since a couple of you have played it as well, do you only acumulate points when you beat the entire game? (ie do you loose all points when you faill miserably?)

the game was pretty easy on normal if you play with the cpu controlled partner ,just be sure you turn off friendly damage or he/she WILL kill you repeatedly.

The art wasn't mobile light force bad or anything, just some of the charecter proportions in the animated opening thing were pretty bad. a very very tiny nitpick as the whole package is amazing.

Ooooooooooooooo :) I wasn't sure whether it was a rom for use on a SEGA emulator or a sort-of flash type of game that you can open but that clears up the basics.

Reading this thread, I kept wondering why anyone would want to play an accurate remake instead of your actual SOR cartridge, but I gave it a shot. And damn, this is good.

All the secret self defense techniques are there, including:

-Pipe 'em
-Knife 'em
-Throw a guy
-Eat an apple

In short, it's PERFECK.

It feels looser than the original, but that makes it a little easier to move around and change direction while attacking, so I actually like it this way.
Are the three different paths based on the three individual games, or do they all use levels from the whole series?

Blitzwing256
04-06-2011, 10:53 PM
theres 4 paths you start from and you can branch out to differnt paths as you play the game, the first branching part i found was in the bar you can go through a door to a differnt area.

Aaaaaand......SEGA shut them down.

Some of you may remember that a couple of days ago the indie remake of the fan favourite Streets of Rage was finally completed after nearly a decade of work. Well it seems it also caught Sega’s attention as they have contacted the team who made it and have made them take it down.

The game (which didn’t use any of Sega’s code and was free to play) was only up for a couple of day’s before Sega intervened. Seems like you fans better keep onto your exe’s for now, since it looks like this fan remake isn’t going to come back any-time soon. Now word on anything official from either sides here, just that Sega had contacted the team and now the links to the file are gone. You know, Sega I love you but this is really shitty. Hopefully something can be worked out, but for now it seems the game is not available to play, for now.

i suspect a deal between them and sega will be made, sega is far more reasonable than the big N, who knows maybe we'll see a version of it on xbox live in the near future.

I guess I shouldn't have put downloading it off. I played an earlier version, can't remember which one exactly, and was looking forward to the final build.

I bet Sega makes a deal with them to take it digital... Or they outright steal it from them by law and sell it themselves, cutting them out. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm glad I downloaded it when I did! After playing with it for awhile, I love it even more now :) As for Sega, I don't get it. The whole project has been in the works for 8 years now and even when they released the beta version Sega never said a word and now when it's complete Sega has issues with it?!? Hmmmm

I guess I'm different but I could care less for trophies and achievements BUT it would be cool to see it on XBL/PSN to give it more exposure but, as it is, I'm happy to just have it the way it is now....and the way it is is niiiiiice :)

For those that care, a simple hex edit in your save game will give you enough money to buy everything in the shop. An empty achievement, but it works.

If you aren't familiar with hex editing, attached is a savegame with everything bought. Unzip it to your sorrv5/savegame directory and overwrite your old one.

I don't believe in petitions, so I suggest we email bomb. Everybody who cares should email Sega saying they should pay, pay, Bomber Games for the rights to Streets of Rage Remake.

Then they should release this absolute GEM on all of the usual platforms they shovel their stuff onto nowadays.

There should also be a Dreamcast version.

You can save what level you're on by exiting with alt+x. You can't save by exiting out of the pause screen or after a game over.

Your money is only saved after beating the game.

At first I didn't understand it either, Sega has been pretty understanding as far as homebrews go in the past, just ask GoodDealGames. Then I saw they are hawking a new iOS update of SOR2, then it made sense.

Seems kind of silly of them of them to feel even mildly threatened. Only SOR fanboys are going to be downloading the remake, and you can almost guaranty that they already have SOR2 in one form or another since it is generally considered the best in the series.

In fact, you could go so far as to say the petty move by Sega will have the opposite intended effect by pissing off said fanboys and have them telling Sega to go screw themselves with their remake.

As for me, I will most certainly not be purchasing SOR2, but that's just because of the horrid control scheme of the other Sega games combined with the high price.

Here is a large Obor file repository if your having difficulty tracking down a specific game:
http://www.4shared.com/folder/4d_HwRe1/PAK_files.html becareful some of them are so old you might fall of your dinosaur. (when it comes to features) So reading up on them will still be a better bet than randomly downloading any of them.
www.lavalit.com also has a lot of obor games but they had a forum crash and have lost a lot of them and are in the process of slowly uploading them again.

A lot of these games run on different platforms PSP, Xbox, Dreamcast etc so if you don't want to play it on your PC you don't have to. The games are also very easy to manipulate if you download the .pak editing software (pakplode) It's as easy as manipulating simple text files. The fancier scripts are a bit more complicated but there is a lot of documentation on www.lavalit.com if your interested in creating your own beat em up or manipulating and existing one more to your liking.

Other OBOR games worth looking up:
TMNT The Wrath of Shredder, Final Fight Gold Champion Edition(Yes that's a real name), Crime Buster V2.5, 8man, Return of Double Dragon, Shiva and Lisa 1,2 and 3, A tale of Vengeance. Balance of Power, War of the Gems and Marvel First Alliance. There are many great games I'm sure I forgot quite a few.

I've played this SoRR the past few days. It's good. Really damned good. If Sega were smart they'd buy this remake and put it on XBLA or something because this is awesome.

Not only is it good, but it's tough as nails. The stages get pretty long and they'll kick your ass if you're not careful.
