Hi all,

I just bought my first working arcade game, a 19" Neo Geo MVS 1 slot game.
I need some advice on what games to buy and what games to avoid for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Oh, I say first working arcade game, because I bought a cocktail Phoenix game back in July but I am still loading it with Mame for my parents bar.
To complete that bar feeling, they wanted an old cocktail game.

I recommend any of the Metal Slug games, Aero Fighters 2, definately Garou Mark of the Wolves, and Super Baseball 2020. Thats about all I have played really, as I do not own a MVS cab. But others will probably agree with me on most of that.

Samurai Showdown 2. It's cheap and my favorite of that series. Sure Number 5 is awesome, but I can't spend that kind of money on a single game.

Others
Metal Slug 1, 2 and X.
Bust a Move, both
SvC Chaos, snk vs capcom. Great fighting game, lots of familiar characters.

Avoid Yaton from Canada on ebay, shipping is brutally long and his games are stored outside exposed to the elements. I bought one cart and was not happy with the results. Sure he's cheap, some are boots, but I hated the down time waiting for the game to get here.
Buy from someone in the US if possible.

Magical Drop 3 is the bar-none best puzzle game on the system.

You can't go wrong with the Metal Slug, KOF, Samurai Shodown, games either.

Avoid: Fight Fever, Legend of Success Joe, Diggerman, Super Spy

Thanks for the help guys. Especially on the EvilBay seller to avoid, I hate dealing with shady, or even semi-shady sellers.

As for the games, thanks. I'm looking into buying a few off Ebay right now.

Ohh one more thing,

The Neo Geo cab I got only has three buttons per player, are there any games that use all 4 buttons?
I really don't want to have to add a 4th button unless I have to.

The few fighting games I have played have used all 4 buttons, but I am not sure if they are necessary or not.

MD 3 is awesome, very addictive and full of suspense
SNK vs Capcom is also amazing but the controls can be a little wonky sometimes
I like Baseball Stars 2 but unless your playing 2 player forget it. Theres a cheat were you can pick off the CPU baserunner on first every time. Just throw it to first a couple times and hes out, if you don't do it he will steal...that sucks. The first one doesn't have this problem but it's not as cool as part 2. Many people will reccomend Metal Slug but if you want a killer Military game get Shock Troopers, I'm not saying it's better but it's a MVS exclusive. You can play Metal Slug on your X box. The games I didn't really care for where League Bowling and Street Slam, there decent games but they haven't aged that well and theres just not enough to them.
I want to try Strikers 1945 plus and Dodge Ball, they sound fun. Have fun man

any metal slug game....and i liked The Super Spy....not everyone does, but i thought it was fun.....im not a huge fighting game fan, which is heavily what the mvs deals with, but i still found enough stuff to enjoy....

I have to agree with Crazy Climber... Shock Troopers and Shock Troopers 2 are a blast to play. There's a fellow on eBay who's selling Metal Slug 2 for a killer deal (I'm a fan of the Metal Slug games). You may also want to pick up Blazing Star if you're into shoot 'em ups. I also enjoyed Robo Army, if you like Final Fight-type games.

It's possible, but it's advertised as 100% original. The seller's id is "run4border" and I've bought stuff from him before. His games have always arrived working, but I never opened them up to check if they're original. Right now, he's got the game listed for $17.99 and is accepting "Best Offer". :)

for that price, it seems pretty sketchy......you never know, could be real, but i'd be concerned....

I think someone found a bunch of Metal Slug 2's and is selling them at a pretty decent price $15 to $20 bucks or so. The MVS one isn't nearly as rare as the AES ones though, they always seem to fetch hundreds. I personally think owning an MVS is the way to go just for that reason.

Metal Slug games, especially X, are a must. I agree with freckledpeas, Blazing Star is a good buy as well. One of my favorite shmups. Not too expensive either. The girls voice gets annoying though!

Last Blade is the only fighting game you need ;) Best one on the system imo

Well, I went ahead and bought Art of Fighting 2 off Ebay for 3.82, I couldn't pass it up at that price. Plus I am tried of Fatal Fury... Only three characters to choose from sucks... I am in the process of adding a fourth button to both player 1 and player 2. After that I will start looking more into buying some new games.

Thanks all for all the advice.

Remember that MVS carts are much cheaper than AES carts. So a low price shouldn't concern you. I recommend Samurai Showdown 4, Kizuna Encounter, Blazing star, Rage of the Dragons, and Matrimelee. The last two may cost a bit more, since they are a bit harder to come by.

i was checkin out some places online for MVS carts because i might have found a 2 and 3 slot for sale at a "garage sale store" of all places and i came across this place for games as one of the cab.s might be missing a game

http://www.neostore.com/base.asp

just thought i would throw it out there, prices seem kinda high but then again i dont own any cabnets.

Thanks Niku-Sama I will keep them in mind..

I guess I am going to have to wait to buy any MVS carts anyways..
I got one off Ebay last week, Art of Fighting 2.. It was 13.82 shipped with shock box, so maybe that will hold me for awhile.

I am also working on adding the fourth button, D, to the cabinet.

Anyone know how I can add a pause button to a MVS cabinet, if it is possible even?

Thanks again everyone for all the help and advice.

Nope, runs4border is a GREAT seller, one of the very best as far as metal slugs go. All his carts are original and he will advertise if the serials are intact or not. I've bought from him twice, 1st slug 2, then slug x.

Also, his auctions are BIN or best offer, so I got MS2 for $20 shipped, and MSX for $25 shipped. Nobody will sell you those carts for a better price than that, if they do, they're crazy.

I remember seeing a picture in one of his auctions with a huge stack of Metal Slug 3 carts sitting next to a fat stack of $20 bills. It was very baller.

Anyone know how I can add a pause button to a MVS cabinet, if it is possible even? Indeed you can. All you need is basic soldering skills and a few parts

Vectorman0, THANKS!! That is exactly what I needed.. Now all I need to do is learn to solder... Maybe I'll find something to practice on... Anybody know what having the wire tined means? I didn't understand that...

Thanks again.... That is a good website.. I might add a credit button too, as I get some other projects done, makes it alot easier than opening the coin door and flipping the wires.

Tinning the wires just means melting a little bit of solder on them. :)

Thanks... I will hopefully get to work on the pause button, sometime this weekend... At least I hope I will...

Thanks again all who replied to this topic.. I never actually thought I would get the chance to own a MVS cabinet, but I finally did.. Now to get everything right..
