Would this system be worth the pick up used for $60 or so? (or of course new for$99) I'm interested in the new Zelda TP and I was thinking about going this route. I'm on the fence about the Wii (not that anyone has any at the moment) and besides the fact that I'm already collecting for the NES and SNES too (along with other systems) so the the VC does'nt interest me very much. I was wondering if there are any other cool/good games worth picking up for the system. (exclusives mainly that did'nt come out for the PS2 or Xbox)
SO let me know your thoughts on the system and if you still enjoy it etc etc etc or whatever other input you'd like to add. :) I would'nt want to just spend the $100 or to just play Zelda TP.
Thanks.

######## UPDATE #################

Well, again to all of you that that helped with input I thank you again. :)
I did end up picking a used system up with the giftcard along with Zelda TP (new) a memory card (used) and Metroid Prime 2 (used complete) for a total of $118 (with the use of the $10% off used games etc with the Gamestop card) I was also out and about that day and ran across a new memory card (official) on clearance for $12 so Picked that up too just for the hell of it.
I first played around with metroid to test things out and that game is damn fun! and I just started Zelda TP today and I am really enjoying that as well so far. I am happy with the purchase and happy to have added it to the growing collection of mine. :)
I've also picked up Zelda four swords and Fire Emblem (new) that I found cheap for $15 ea. :)

I bought my Gamecube used for $70 back in February 2004. If you look around your local craigslist long enough you'll probably be able to get one for $50.

It's not really "viable" at this point. :p

I'd wait, $60 is a ripp-off for a used unit, that's not even half the new cost, plus prices should start droping off now that Wii has backwards compatibilty, as far as games go? depends on your taste, it's got a half dozzen or soo Gems excluesive to it.

I think I'll take the exact opposite stance here.

It IS viable, $60 is a fair price for a working unit, and it's got way more than a half dozen exclusive gems.

Seriously!

The 3 new Zelda games on the GCN and the collections made for it.
Also if you get your hang on a GameBoy Player thats golden.
Great games like Baiten Kaitos, Geist, Donkey Kongas, The Pikmins, Chibi Robo

I can go on forever!

You can always try the Buy/Sell Forums on this very web site and maybe you'll get a good deal. I've seen at least a couple of GameCube systems for sale on there in the past few days.

I would say it's definitely worth it, but it depends on what games you like. Off the top of my head. . .the Mario sports games are nice, especially (IMO) Super Mario Strikers. You've also got the Metroid Primes, Eternal Darkness, F-Zero GX, Wario Ware, various new and old Zeldas...and many more! :)

I think getting a system at the end of its life usually works out well -- it's easy to pick and choose from the titles that are generally accepted to be good, and accessories and games tend to be cheap (I still remember at the end of the Saturn's life being able to get the 3D control pads new for $5 at EB Games.)

BUY IT

Then go find Eternal Darkness and MGS: Twin Snakes.

It's certainly worth picking up for all the exclusive games and many of the multiformats (I figure PoP and Burnout for starters are best on the Cube), but you should definitely be able to find a used console for under $50 imo. I managed to get a MODDED US Cube for $60 recently!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. :) I forgot to mention this as well! The place I was going to pick it up used was at GameStop I received a $25 giftcard (that I forgot to mention) for there so if I bought it used it would drop the price to $34 unless I bought a new one then it would be $75. (plus tons of cheap ass used games there now)That's why I was also interested in some of the other exclusives because as far as multi platforms chances are I already have it (or played it) on the PS2 or Xbox. Mayhem I love Burnout! I actually played it for the first time when I picked it up for the 360 It's a blast to play online as well. Again, Thanks for all the responces. :) As far as types of games I like I like pretty much everything from RPG's, platforms, beat-em-ups etc. etc. I'm not a big serious sports game player but I do enjoy them from time to time and I'd probably check out the Mario ones like golf and Strikers.
So with the new info It seems like most of you would recommend the system pick up.
Thanks again for the input and link and I look forward to further responces :D

Personally? I'd wait and get a Wii instead as it plays all those old games and new stuff too and isn't that expensive. In fact, that's what I did. :)

Either grab the GC with some games (using the gift card) or pick up a Wii. The Wii is a good investment because you'll be able to play newer games, and if you think about it a GC is $60, Wii is $250. $250-60 = $190-25 = $165 to play Wii games, $60 for GC games. It's an odd way of looking at it but if you throw in the value of going online and being able to play games from different generations is great.

Absolutely. The console has some great games to play and $60 is a fair price.

Oh and I'm playing Zelda:TP right now on the Gamecube and it's fantastic.

Since you have the gift card, you should most definitely get the Cube. Resident Evil 4 alone makes it worth having a game cube. And Zelda Twilight Princess? Oh yeah . . .

Sorry that I'm late to the party, but isn't one of the advantages in getting a used Cube is the possibility of component video output? It may not be a priority, but if it is and one were to buy a 'Cube new they'd be powerfully dissappointed if it didn't do component.

Cubes since the Metroid Prime Bundle havn't had the Component port on the system. They dropped it to help cut costs and because it wasn't widely used.
