A couple days ago, rumors surfaced on the CheapAssGamer (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122837) forums that Blockbuster was about to sell Rhino Video Games to GameStop. Today, the rumor was confirmed here (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070105/daf017.html?.v=84).
They weren't a that big of a presence in the video game retail world, and I've never been to one as I don't live anywhere close to them, but it annoys me to see GameStop swallow up another competitor.

I'm not to familiar with that place either but that sucks either way. Damn bastard GameStop! *shakes fist*

Rhino games was the best place to get games around here. Hopefully they continue to sell classic games. I'm sure it would be too much to ask that the continue to have the lowest prices on both new and used games. Luckily in my area EB and Gamestop arent that bad, but they were never as good as Rhino Games.

There are no Rhino games near me but I was wondering if this in any way affects the Gamerush stores since they are owned by Blockbuster too. Lots of those around here.

I've never seen the appeal in Rhino Games myself. Granted the nearest one is farther than I usually drive to pick up a game, but every time I've been in it's been sort of "we want to be Gamestop" anyway. Also, unless they keep everything behind the counter or in the back, they toss out the packaging for ps1/DC games, rendering them borderline worthless to someone like myself.
To me the biggest loss here is that it's less competition for Gamestop, not that another of their clones has been taken under their wing.
*I was actually just in Rhino today, which is funny considering it took me all of 30 seconds to walk to the Blockbuster in the same shopping center. The old ally is the new enemy I suppose.

They won't. In fact, you might wanna get them while they're still there. Posted by Jayce on CAG:
Actually, our manager said today that all of the old school stuff was being shipped out as soon as possible to Gamestop warehouses and then possibly to some 3rd party vendor or something. He told me to buy any old stuff that I wanted right away and that a clearance on it isnt coming.

man that is a bummer. there are no rhino's around here but I hate this kind of business. Gamestop sucks royally. Luckily there is a really awesome store back home called Cool Stuff that sells everything at great prices. Its worth the 1.5 hour drive home just to visit cool stuff.

Rhino is the only and best game shop around here.I was shocked when they gave me back the box to my SNES and NES games I sold there awhile ago.The whole not taking classic games complete is there only flaw.Oh well I was already buying my games online only now. There trade in values and deals will be missed.

Man that stinks, I've only been in a Rhino once, but it still will be missed. Afterall, I did find my Aero Fighters cart there.

GameStop,

IT HUNGERS!!
How many more stores must go down to satisfy it's greed? GameStop truly is the Wal-Mart of the industry. "Sorry Mom and Pop stores, we gotta take your good business and force teenagers to work under hidden commission terms, which we'll tell them about if they don't sell these magazines!"

I'll miss my Rhino. :( They had a great selection of games, much better than GameStop.

There were ps1 games for 2.99 at the one by me, granted some of them did not come with cases they ones I was hoping would come with them did and talk about making a profit. Armored Core: Project Phantasma for only 2.99 complete. Too bad Rhino had to get bought out for me to get this deal though. I wish they would do the same for the old school games.

Oh boy, don't miss out on those GREAT highly eBay-influenced retro prices! If they're anything like GameStop, you'd probably be better off waiting until they appear in that third party's inventory.
