View Full Version : XBLA Leaderboards ... how high do you go?
What's your personal rule of thumb regarding how high in the leaderboards of Xbox Live Arcade titles you feel inclined to climb before you're satisfied? I generally shoot for getting inside the top 5,000 ... considering that it's a huge international online community, I'm OK with that.
If I don't like a particular game, I don't care about my ranking, obviously. I'm really just talking about the games that I genuinely like and enjoy enough to become competitively good.
Also, I don't feel the same about full retail Xbox 360 games for some reason. Maybe it's because there's more people playing those, and the high leaderboard slots require much larger investments of time. I don't really care about the leaderboards for full games at all.

Early on in the 360's life until the end of january i aimed for being in the top 3. I was actually number one for the month of december but st theking had a dormroom helping him so he overtook mefast and then other people passed me so i just slowed down and wanted to stay in top 25, then later top 5. Now I am in like the top 250 or something and i wanna get down to top 200 MAYBE tope 100 someday but not right now. Its impossible to be in the top 25 legit anymore so I'm ok with that.

I agree about the 5,000 mark. Once I get inside of that, I usually start to relax a little and play for fun.
My highest rank ever on XBL was #39 in Top Spin. This was back when they had around 50-60,000 ranked players on the scoreboards. I was also #1 on three tables in Pinball Hall Of Fame but it has been a while since I played that so I probably slipped on all 3.

For a brief while back in the day I was in the Top 5 on Rainbow Six 3. I was playing about 4hrs a night in a loosely organized clan of guys I knew around town. Jesus that game was fun.

To be honest, I don't care all that much about being # whatever in the world. I just like to be above my friends. Its all about bragging rights, and if I'm higher than my friends, then I have the bragging rights.
That said, I was #1 in the world in Totem Ball for about 48 hours right after it came out. The kicker though is that I didn't know it while I was playing--I actually intentionally killed myself off because I was bored and wanted to move on to something else, then noticed my ranking. Its still pretty high, but I haven't looked to see where I'm at in a month or two. I think if you lead the world rankings, even for ten minutes, you've done pretty well in any game.
