Figure I'd build up some anticipation.

The IGN review is up.

8.5

8.5. Probably would have been a 9 if not for Gears of War. Many of the sources of reviews that I read (IGN, Gamespot, all the magazines) seem to be get a little jaded. Their expectations are way to high, and they act as if each game has to offer something new, rather than simply doing something well. X-play and thatsnooty Morgan Webb are the worst...

Anyway, I loved the first demo and decided to skip the second in favor of the full game. Remember to get the special edition for the extra multiplayer map.

I haven't played the second demo (with the latest OXM) but I've heard the gameplay has changed. The E3 demo is a lot of fun. I actually prefer it over Gears of War. If I didn't have a billion games to catch up on I'd be first in line to pick this title up.

Haha, from the review:

When enough grenades, rockets, and missiles start detonating at once, the entire screen can become completely filled with smoke the beautiful smoke, causing even more chaos to ensue.
Yessss, my prettiesssss...so wissspy and vaporousss

I was sold on this game 5 minutes after playing the E3 demo back in May. I will be picking it up this week and will be putting off getting a PS3 another few weeks so that I can give this game the attention it deserves.

I've played both of the demos a ton, I'll be trying to get this day 1.

I agree... Off of both the Demos I've played. I was thinking this was the 360's next killer app. I was definitely expecting, at leat a 9.

Still buying on day 1. I haven't bought a 360 game in forever (well - since Gears..)

And the list of achievements can be found here.

At my cinema job there is a film sized poster for Lost Planet, and it is probably the coolest games poster I've ever seen, so I might get it when it gets taken down. I don't plan on getting a 360, but seeing that poster reminded me of when I first heard/saw news about Halo.

The commercial was just on Fox.

In HD, too. Not as great a commercial as Gears, but It's still drool worthy.

So, what comes extra in the collectors edition?

I've been playing the full game for about 2 weeks, and love it. It was released in Asia at the end of December, and the NTSC-J release is completely in English.

It's really good fun, and HARD. Good, old school challenge. And it's a nice hybrid of a mech game and third person shooter. I'd recommend for anyone who likes a fun and challenging action game.

Game looks good. I saw a video of it on Gamespot. I like how the guy was running in deep snow.

I read a review on this game today and they gave it 4/6. They said it looked great, but got alittle too linear and boring after a while. Is this true? I guess it variates from person to person tho.

I just picked up Lost Planet at lunch. Unfortunately I have 4 more hours until I can play the damn thing.

I played the demo, and I will play the full game tomorrow. I wasnt that impressed with the demo, definately wouldn't seem like it would be 360's new killer app. GoW is still 360's Halo.

I like the game better than the demo. I played it yesterday for a few hours and I love the action. The third person sluggish feel when the guy is moving is still there but the action combined with the mech makes it more acceptable.

I read some reviews where people complain about the short single player but I am fine with that. I will take a short polished game over a long unpolished one.

I love the collectors tin the artbook is ok and the cd is ok. All in all I think it is a fine purchase. Playing the demo in the snow is fine playing with teamates fighting massive bosses is much better.

Deeply disappointed as of now.

Loved the demo. So far, close to hating the full game.

The default controls are simply awful. They're terribly slow, and the screen doesn't move until you go far enough to the sides.

The bug enemies are incredible. They're fun and unique to fight. The pods they come out of infinitely is a weak way to increase the difficulty.

The human opponents nearly kill the game. In the train level with the wreck, they sit there as I pick them off one by one. No attempt to avoid my shots or take cover. It doesn't feel intense when you're fighting guys who don't fight back. Yes, some guys do move in open areas. They're far too few in number.

Mech action is nice, though too brief. Their sluggish feel makes it nearly impossible to dodge.

I guess this is the "Gears Effect." Gears is that new benchmark, and Lost Planet doesn't match it.

Trust me - it starts picking up around Mission 5.

Anyone defeated that giant worm yet? I got the moth, but couldn't beat the worm.

My copy of the Collector's Edition arrived on Friday. Unfortunately, I've promised myself that I won't start on it until I've finished Ridge Racer 6 (50% completed, but this is where it gets hard).

Incidentally, has anyone managed to download or unlock that exclusive multiplayer map? I couldn't find any mention of it on Marketplace.

If the controls feel slow you can adjust the aiming from "accelerated" to the more natural "fixed". I did this immediately, as the accelerated felt too slow and weird.

The online multiplayer is fun. I still don't have much of a handle on how points are distributed between opposing teams though.

For once we have a online shooter with no "kill-cam". Snipers can be totally anonymous. To balance it there aren't very many sniper rifles in each stage and they don't seem to respawn after you've used up the ammo.

Also the lobby system is fast and gets you into the game quickly...this is important.

All in all, I'd rate the Lost Planet multiplayer as a success.

I've only been playing for a few hours, but so far the game seems pretty solid. Here's a few impressions so far:

The cut scenes are killing me. Too many long-awkward-pauses.
The shotgun feels like a god damn hand canon.
Mechs are cool.
The game is essentially a 3rd person SHMUP.
I'm happy I have something to make me stop playing Gears' for a few hours.

Good stuff.:)

One question - how is the anchor? Like Tenchu, except you can pin monsters with it, right?
