I borrowed this game from my friend about a week ago, and i am now on disc 3 and loving the game. It is one of my favorites with many good sidequests and a great card system. I just dont see why many people hate this game? Can you tell me why a lot of people hated it if you did? I just WANT TO KNOW!!!

I didn't hate it at all. In fact, I liked most of it: the "draw" system, the card game, the characters, and even that annoying Selphie. My only gripe was that the story didn't seem to need the whole save-all-existence shtick, which made the ultimate villain seem unnecessary. Other than that, I think it's a first-rate RPG that deserves better than its status as the least-loved Final Fantasy title next to Mystic Quest.

And yes, this post will doubtlessly be of no real help to you.

For me it's:

The Draw system
Missing out on weapon and armor upgrades and not realizing it, resulting in having to continously using Summons.
Story too sci-fi ish

For me the biggest problem was that the card game was more fun than the actual story. It got so all I wanted to do was play the card game. Therefore I had trouble getting sucked in to the story. Also agree with Kaine that it just didn't feel like a tradititional FF game -more sci-fi ish.

1. Shitty story
2. Whiny lead character

I base my RPG opinions on the story more than the system, personally.

And Mystic Quest is way, WAY better than FF8.

I loved FF 8. My only complaint was that the drawing and junctioning system made it too easy to make near invincible characters. My characters were bearly into their 50's when I beat the game and I think I only died once. Too easy...

The Draw system really irked me.
And Squall was a great design, but he whined so much.
The card game was super fun though...

The characters were boring (I AM a teenager with emotional problems; I don't need to play one), the story was stupid (Oooh! Two unlikely people fall in love! No one's ever done THAT before!), and the only way to get strong was to sit there and draw magic from enemies all day, which was boring as all hell.

That enough reasons for ya? LOL

FF7 was leaning towards sci-fi, but retained alot of it's old school magical charm (so to speak).

Personally, I've played every single FF game made, including Mystic Quest and all of the GB games, and FF8 is still one of my favorite games from the series. I liked it MUCH better than 9, and 10 just disappointed me.

The last FF game I enjoyed as much as 8 was FF4.

FF8 was good I think FF7 was better.

I love FF8...if for no other reason than the character development....by the end of the first disc, I felt like I knew all the characters personally, and none of the other FFs (I've played through all of them except 10) have had that same appeal for me.
