I just got the Dynacom Mega/Master Adaptor from Brazil (thanks Sergio!). It's similar to the Power Base Converter, except it doesn't have a slot for cards and it's much smaller.

And here it is in action:

Did you trade with Sergio Charin??, he´s a great collector. Also, this is maybe a great find for you. Congratulations.

Cool!

Hey you know that you can just disassemble the shell on the Power Base Converter and get the same result, right? Ask John CX2K Hardie, he performed this little operation on his unit so he could play Master system carts(and cards) on his LaserActive.

Hi

Datel (UK) used to make a similar adaptor called the Mega-Master. It might be easier to get hold of.

Yeah, I've seen a picture of that and it is ugly! I opted for a more attractive option. :) Also, isn't the case irreparably damaged by taking it off? I just don't like the idea of that.

A picture? Hmm.

Well it IS ugly, and yes it does ruin the Power Base Converter - you'd pretty much have to commit yourself to using it as a LaserActive module from that point on, which is why I didn't do the same to mine!

To each his own.

What are you guys talking about? I've taken my Power Base Converter apart before and back again and it works fine still. I think I only removed the PCB for the cartridge port though- there some specific alteration that is the point of no return?

I wish I could answer this, I haven't seen what happens when it's taken apart. John mentioned something about the angle of the cartridge but it was a long time ago and my memory on the specifics is fuzzy. Maybe he'll drop in and answer this.

Here's a pic of a disassembled Power Base Converter plugged into a LA unit. It doesn't look THAT bad...

And apparently every one of you serious collectors seems to have one of these Laseractive units! I must ask why you prefer it over a standard Genesis.

It's all about consolidation, baby (in a sausage).

Your wry reply has me afflicted with girlish giggles, Keir!

He's right... AND it gives a truly incredible picture. With the CD games, too, at times you can use an optical audio connection which you couldn't use on either the TurboDuo or the Genesis... it's a great piece of electronics, and how else are you going to view your official Star Wars laserdiscs, anyway?
