View Full Version : Primary system for collecting?

After seeing orrimarrko’s topic on system rarities, a question raised in my mind: What is everyone’s primary system for collecting? I do understand that many people collect for multiple systems, but if you had to choose just one, what would you say is your main priority? The biggest obsession?

I do realize that listing every system is near impossible.I spent a large amount of time creating a gigantic poll, but only came to find out that there is a limit on how many poll options you are allowed to include, (how was I supposed to know?) . I scrapped the whole poll idea and decided that members should just simply post the name of their primary system. I can tabulate the results on a later date. I hope a lot of people respond to this. I think its going to be heated between the NES and the Atari.
Thank you!

(p.s. I will start the bidding with a vote for the SNES)

Case of my limited transportation options, I'm with NES and Dreamcast right now with some random Genesis or Snes on the side if/when I find something I want.

At this moment in time, it's Sega Saturn.

NES, and if not the NES, then the SNES.

SNES is a good one because it hasn't been firmly established which games are true and blue holy grails, so you can still find games for it at very reasonable prices. Hell, the Mountain Biking Extertainment shit that DP said was the rarest games for the system can still be bought brand new from the companies' website.

I guess if I had to pick one system it would be the old standby, Atari 2600. However, I'm having a blast collecting Genesis right now, so who knows?

Just because you can buy em new doesn't mean there are less of them out there than most other SNES games...

I'm still on NES, always will be, but it's mostly stuff that doesn't pop up too often and/or I can't afford at the time. (Like the NWC grey that popped up for $1400)

Right now, it's Genesis. Good and cheap.

Sega Saturn for me, too... I'm halfway to a complete collection of US games and I have a dandy collection of imports (all the shooters and most of the Capcom stuff)

:D

Glad to see Joe's in on the Saturn!

It would have to be the Playstation for me, I just picked up Sol Divide for it and FF Origins will be next and I'm waiting to see how Dragonball Ultimate Battle and Inuyasha turn out

Hmmmmm...that's a tough one. My biggest collections are Genesis and PSX, but I'd say my collecting focus is currently mainly divided between Saturn, Genesis, and TG16. There's no clear winner of the three.

Well, there are five machines I actively collect for: Arcadia, INTV, 2600, SMS, and Genesis.

The Arcadia's tough to *really* chase after since I only need a couple more titles and they rarely turn up in the wild (or even tradelists for that matter!) The Intellivision is another one that I rarely see in the wild for whatever reason, so it's not a primary system to hunt for. The 2600 is a collection that will never end, so I won't count it either.

So... that leaves the SMS and Genesis. SMS games are the only ones that I care to have boxes for, which has slowed my collecting down a tiny bit for it, but I'm still pretty close to completion and they're always on my mental "wantlist." The Genesis has become a great bit of fun lately, and since I actually play Gen games more than the other machines I actively collect for, I'll go with that for this subject.

The short answer: Genesis!

Right now, I'm working on building up my Genny library, although the vast majority of my collection consists of PC Engine stuff. SNES would be a distant second.

I've been doing three areas lately

DC
NES
SMS

I'm having great luck with SMS, DC is almost done so I've been doing more NES as of late.

It's hard to narrow it to just one...
Sega Master System: Trying to complete all North American releases (including canadian ones) but will take any imports I find, just not going out of my way to get them.
Sega Genesis: Trying to get all "first generation" games; The one published by sega with the black box and grey grid. but as well will take any others I find, but won't go out of my way for...

Right now it seems Sega Saturn is the clear winner for my collecting bug, but I will go back to the Atari 2600 eventually :-D

NES and N64, although any system still qualifies.
