should i buy a neo-geo for the 5-6 beat 'em up titles on it or do you think that in the next couple of years SNK will say "oh snap. we can emulate titles onto a ps2/ps3/etc. disc and make lots of $$$ for basically no work!". i can actually afford one and the 40-ish dollar price tag per game now. i know that Metal Slug got a compilation, but i don't exactly see 8Man and Sengoku getting the same kind of attention..

There are already Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting packages for PS2 in Japan. (Don't count on seeing them domestically) I'm sure you know what KOF titles you can get for PS2, and I imagine Samurai Shodown will get the same treatment eventually. But some of my favorite titles like Ninja Master's and Breakers Revenge will never be resurrected, and i doubt we'll see anything like a Sangoku or Sonic Wings package.
But I wholeheartedly reccomend getting a Neo Geo, there's nothing like original hardware and once you experience the joy of owning one you won't be disappointed. You may discover new games you didn't find interesting before, as well.

I doubt you'd see Sengoku get a compilation. Metal Slug has a much bigger following. Really besides KoF's, Samurai Showdown, and maybe some of their newer fighters like Mark of the wolves or Last blade, you'd be lucky to see much of anything from SNK/Playmore on consoles. I'm pretty sure they're not making a ton on the above mentioned releases either, as most of the hardcore following of these titles have MVS cabs, or AES systems. The ports are really for the neo fans that don't have the obsession or deep pockets needed for neo hardware.
On a side note SNK/Playmore seems to be horribly organized and although their releases are ports they're been plagued by delays/cancelations, and a lot of neo fans have said that the ports don't live up to their originals.

It would be a smart move on SNK Playmores part to hire a compitent development stuido like Digital Eclipse, who've proven themselves to make accurate compilations of games that represent the originals (I.E. Namco 50th Anniversary Collection, Capcom Classics Collection 1, 2, and Sega Genesis Collection) and follow Namco/Capcoms example of arcade game compilations. Throw in 15-20 games at $20-$30 a pop. Digital Eclipse has proven themselves to be a compitent compilation developer. Throw in a mix of pre-Neo Geo and early-mid era Neo-Geo MVS titles per entry and I'm sure they would please some of us impatient fans.

SNK P is run by idiots, so no, they won't do that.

+1 to that. If SNK/Playmore did a lot of logical things they'd be a lot better off. They're another Japanese company that doesn't allow their US branch to handle the US market. They shoot themseves in the foot costantly similar to what sega did.

I bought my MVS 2 slot for 285 out the door at an auction. I put in around 125 for new joysticks, buttons, and the 27" monitor was recapped. It came with SShowdown 2 and Metal Slug. I've bought games here and there, never buying a game over 40. Spending around 550 over the course of a year.
Imo the real deal is worth it. My friends are jealous and the fighting games are top notch. I haven't bought SvC Choas yet. It's a fighting game with characters from Capcom and SNK. That's next on my list.
Don't wait for a comp disc to surface, it ain't happening. Some are surfacing like from Taito and Capcom, but SNK/playmore don't listen to fanboys. They look at numbers. It's irritating because vendors know the Neo Geo machines still bring in the cash! Metal Slug is still a great game. Several fighting games still do well. The list goes on...
