I got a Power Joy 008 cart, I used a gyromite converter and have been playing all those 84 in 1 games. Ice Climber is on there, a good arcade game, nothing fancy, except one thing....
I am hammering seals instead of fluffy white ewes like on the NES version!
A stupid way to start a thread but what else was changed when converting games to American standards?
Besides Doki Doki Panic, that's an easy one.
Thanks!

Well i can point out contra for one.

Nes Contra>Missing Cut sceens no animation in stages plus the full ending was left out.

Famicom Contra>Has the cut sceens extra animation in the stages and the full ending.

There's also two more i can point out as well.

Nes Bionic Commando>All nazi reference was removed.

Famicom Bionic Commando> Nothing change at all nazi reference are still there.

Castlevania III Dracula Curse, heck i'll just link the difference on that one.

The CV3 one is not a real big deal but... i perfer the famicom version more 'it has the better music.

Famicom Contra>Has the cut sceens extra animation in the stages and the full ending.

Intro, map screen/briefing before level, a few "cutscenes," animated trees in levels (I think the tile size is a bit smaller, but still, animation!) and the A+B button cheat for the ending message. For some reason I can't remember what else happened in the ending, besides the "wait for pickup" sequence which should be in the US version.

Famicom Bionic Commando> Nothing change at all nazi reference are still there.
No change...compared to what? Anyway, the US version still has EXPLODING HITLER. That wasn't in the arcade game!

Of course the CV series had a lot of changes from Japan to US before Bloodlines came out. Contra also had a lot of changes up to Hard Corps in the European market, games rebadged as "Probotector."

Also, Power Blazer got turned into Power Blade, big deal.

I can't think of much else of note in the Famicom market, mainly small stuff like various licensed properties being changed into generic ones for the US market (i.e. Shatterhand was originally some Japanese robots show, good production values for the game!)

NES Lifeforce vs. Famicom Salamander. Salamander allowed you to have 3 options, Lifeforce limited you to 2. Salamander also apparently had multiple endings depending on how well you did, with the best one showing the 'pilot' taking off the helmet and showing it's a girl... or at least it looks like one :?

2 good examples of 'the little differences' are Bonk and Crash Badicoot.

Bonk in Japan looks very japanese cartoony. Bonk in the US looked like a comic strip character.

Bonk's facelift is alot more obvious than Crash. But crash still looks very 'japanese'. He almost looks like a dog, in Japan.

I'd like to see a series of videos where they show one ending, then the other to show differences. Sooo, someone get right to that and start posting on Youtube.

Didn't some CastleVania games have the crosses removed as to not offend or be non-religious to American gamers?

I know where I can get a Contra for the famicom. Oh yeah...
Castlevania V3, I need to plug that in. I bought it, cleaned it, and shelved it. Didn't play it yet.

Castlevania 3 is way more than a little bit different from the US version. It has a more forgiving (and logical) difficulty balance in terms of enemy lethality, the bosses seem to be a bit less aggressive and Grant's ranged dagger is totally nasty. Using him is almost like having an easy mode in a way. Evil Grant's daggers can also simply be ducked under as opposed to having to jump over them. All of this added to some different graphics that seem to have a little more slowdown in spots and music that is of a much higher sound quality and you have a different game.

As for the music itself, I like it loads better, but it really is a subjective thing. The music is so prevalent in the game to begin with that it gives it a different feel. I think it makes one of the best looking NES games that much more impressive. It still sounds 100% like NES music, but with more depth from the added channels. Sound effects do suffer volume-wise though.

Yes, crucifixes were turned into equal-armed crosses or "boomerangs." Certainly true in CV1 and Super CV4, I'm pretty sure. Probably also CV2-3 as well. I don't think the cross was changed in Haunted Castle.

Well it's realy a small detail far as the "ending" go's for the fami contra.

Since the heros are pickup in the chopper then you 'see the base blow up.

Dunno if it's ture i've herd it was left out on the nes version becuse it seem to copy, the ending you see in the movie the predator.

Far as bionic commando go's i did buy... the fami version based on what i've herd to see the difference for myself.

I'll say this it all most seems the same to me.

Btw it also go's for alot these days then what the nes one go's for.

Similar changes were made to Ratchet when the Ratchet & Clank games were released in Japan.
