If this is 3D, I'm going to throw up. My guess is it's the rumored PSP 2D sequel to SotN.

The PSP could use this release. I wish the price would drop soon so i could pick one up. The price here is still like $280 for the Base Pack and $400 for the Giga Pack (contains 2gb memstick tho).

Rumored PSP sequel? This is the first I've ever heard of a "Second Symphony" game.
This is fantastic news! I also hope it stays 2D-ish in honor of the first game. And it would be nice if Alucard was in it too. This is a sequel I'll definately be keeping my eye on.

Second Symphony is just the name of that article section, not a game. SotN is getting a second release, hence a "Second" Symphony

I think most people here understand "Second Symphony" probably won't be the official title, but let's be clear: The article teaser is not talking about a second release for SotN. It's hinting about a new Castlevania game related to SotN.
DS, PSP...whatever. Let's just hope they ditch the ugly anime theme that has plagued recent Castlevania's.

Clearly it's about SotN. The last paragraph is akin to a "Oh, by the way" in a conversation.
I never said anything about the teaser, just the article itself.
so yea, "Second Symphony" is a title..........of an article blurb, not a game.
my initial post was in response on how you wrote the thread's title.
Perhaps, "New Castlevania?" would be more appropriate?

Ok, for the sake of clarity: "!" should now be "?". If we only could edit post titles.

PLEASE bring this to a console! I'm so sick of playing these games on a 4" screen.

Hehe agree. Altho i really loved Harmony of Disonance for GBA, i dont think i would play through all if it was for a console, hard to say. Much easier with a handheld, so easy to pick up. But the negative thing as you said, small screen :\ If its 2d im not sure they will release it for a console. Look at the Castlevania games for PS2 i.e :(

Agreed, and try and make the game a bit harder this time, Konami. The only recent 2D castlevania that even came close to posing a good challenge was Circle of the Moon.

Actually, I found Portrait of Ruin to be about on level with Circle of the Moon.
And I don't think that SotN was a particularly difficult game. Great fun, huge, and addicting ... but not difficult.
I really, really hope this isn't on the DS.

I really, really hope this isn't on PSP. I like the DS for them, but I would also like to see it on a console once again.

Would the DS be able to produce the same kinda quality (gfx wise) as SotN?

Yeah, I agree. Last time I played it, I didn't even go through much of the upside-down castle and went straight to Dracula. I think since the 16-bit era, CV has done a 180 and gone from near-maddening difficulty to near-cake walk status.

It's the RPG elements that make it a cake-walk.
When you can level-up a bunch to get stronger (or find / forge k3wl items), it eliminates a lot of the challenge.

Doesn't the article say it's coming for Xbox Live, not a handheld?

I hear ya, when I play through SOTN "normally", by the time you get to Dracula, he's a joke. But what surprised me about that playthrough is that my character was pretty weak (only had about 225 life) and didn't have very many of the special items and it was still very easy to kill Drac (or any other boss for that matter). In the old CV games - at least for me - even when you got to a boss with lots of hearts/weapons, the bosses were still tough.
There is an interview with Koji Igarahi in the latest EGM where he talks about the "dumbing down" of the CV series in terms of difficulty. He justifies it by saying that they include an "extra" hard difficulty mode, but that's kinda weaksauce to me. Maybe I'm just being an old crank, but honestly, I'm losing interest in the "Metroidvania" style. I bought Curse of Darkness and got bored with it... there's just no challenge.

The article only hints at a new Castlevania game and they have the exclusive scoop on it. As far as I can see it's all up in the air still. I'll wager that IF it's on the PSP it'll be either a port of SotN (which, admittedly, don't make much sence) or part of a Castlevania classics collection ala Gradius Collection.

if they made a castlevania collection on PSP, I would buy it imediately.

I dumped my PSP---and really really hope they keep the series to 2D on the DS and 3D on consoles. I would be ecstatic if they will bring a 2D game to home consoles, but keep the PSP at bay! I don't want to buy one again, dammit!

If it is on PSP and is a comp collection of past games it'll be the first Castlevania game I won't want to buy... ever. Only way I would pick it up is if Rondo makes it in. And that happening is doubtful at best.
EDIT:
All I can say is Iga is the man! I'm buying the game cause Konami deserves the love but I'm not going after a PSP until I can get a new one for less than $100 or a used one for even less. She'll keep my Gradius Collection and Wipeout Pure warm at night until I find a PSP at my desired price.

If they're not going to bring the 2D games to the big screen (with new, unique titles, not Symphony of the Night ports), then what exactly is the point in only having them on the DS? The screen is tiny compared to the PSP, and because of that, you're not going to get the same gross amount of detail that's possible... which is the reason these last GBA and DS CastleVania titles haven't lived up to Symphony, something Iga is trying to do.
I mean, shit, I don't remember even touching the screen once or using the mic once when playing through Portrait of Ruin. Besides using the second screen for a map/status screen, I never used unique DS-only features once (are they even in the game? Sisters Mode, I guess...). This is the reason the 2D games should go to the PSP. It clearly has a bigger and better screen which would amount to finer, crisper detail, and I don't mind pressing Select to check the map or Start to check my items and status, that's no big deal. Isn't the storage space for data on the PSP greater than that of the DS? If so, that could take care of all the little idiocincracies that Symphony had over all of the GBA and DS CastleVanias (special moves for many different weapons and so on...)
I just don't see the reason in having the series on the DS.

Making original games exclusive to the Portables == more portables sold.

SOTN on the PSP looks so much better than the DS games because the screen is to small the PSP screen SOTN kicks ass on the PSP

Castlevania not on a Nintendo Portable? LOL Yeah, and God of War 2 will be moved to Wii for launch. I'm not saying all Castlevanias will be on Ninty portables. That would be just assanine.
It's nearly a given that a Nintendo Portable will get a Castlevania game or more. 3 titles for the GB/C, 3 plus a double-pack and an NES port for the GBA and 2 for the DS thusfar. I'm willing to wager this "Second Symphony" whatever it may be will also be on DS. I'd honestly be suprised otherwise.

If it's a direct 2d SOTN sequel, I too would prefer this on a console or at least the PSP. Please, not on the DS. It has enough CV's already and I want some really upgraded 2D SOTN graphics the DS just can't provide. I mean I love the DS to death but lets just be honest here :p

I agree, Castlevania on the psp could be a beautiful thing. Look at Ultimate Ghosts n goblins. It combines the best of both worlds with rock hard gameplay, and beautiful visuals (Check out stage 2-2 for a castlevania vibe).
