Hopefully many of you have seen and enjoyed my Zelda thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95617) and Dragon Warrior/Quest thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95660). As promised, my third installment will be the Shining Force Series.
Here is a picture of my collection:
http://www.theretrogamer.net/temp/sf/sf-all-dp.jpg
It includes:
1) Shining Force (GEN - complete)
2) Shining Force II (GEN - complete)
3) Shining Force CD (SegaCD - complete)
4) Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict (GG - complete)
5) Shining Force III (SAT - complete)
6) Shining Force III Scenario 2 (SAT - complete)
7) Shining Force III Scenatio 3 (SAT - complete)
You may notice that this collection is smaller than my Zelda and DW/DQ collections. There are a few reasons for this. The first being that I only collect 'Force' games and not a lot of the side tales like Shining Soul or Shining in the Darkness, etc. While these do tie into the story line (very thinly) I have no real passion to get these or collect them.
Some of you may ask what Final Conflict is because you have not seen it before. Well, I will give a little explanation. There were originally 3 Shining Force Game Gear games released in Japan. They were called the Shining Force Gaiden series. We did eventually see one of those games on the game gear, Shining Force: Sword of Hajya. Sword of Hajya was the 2nd of the 3 games. So why didn't we get the 1st and 3rd you ask? Well we did eventually get the 1st. Shining Force CD is a compilation of 4 'books.' Book 1 is the original Shining Force Gaiden and Book 2 is Sword of Hajya. Both of these games were updated with better graphics. Unfortunately the third and final installment, Final Conflict, in this mini series never made it to the West. Tragic as this is the best of the 3. It is pretty tough to come by and you won't often see it on eBay (almost never).
Well I hope you enjoy this thread as well as my last 2. How is everyone else's Shining Force collection coming? Any pics?
Enjoy!
-Carl

Can you add the word "collection" in those thread titles, so we have a clue that you're talking about collecting the games, not about the games themselves?

The thread could be about collecting the games OR the games themselves. Can I leave that up for interpretation? For instance, in this one, I gave a little history about the SF Gaiden mini-series.

well, you start off each of these threads with pics... besides, I'm sure these series (especially zelda and DW) already have several threads dedicated to the games themselves.

That's pretty nice. I especially like how you didn't include the disgraceful PS2 "Shining Force" games. :)

They made Shining games on the PS2?! *chuckles*

Since you are including "Force" games but not the related titles (Holy Ark, Darkness, Soul, etc.) are you going to add Shining Force Neo (PS2) to your collection since it does use the word "Force", or not, because it's not a turn based strategy game?

Kind of embarressed to keep replying to all these threads but not nearly as embarressed as I am to own Shining Force Neo.

01. Shining in the Darkness (GEN) [complete]
02. Shining Force (GEN) [complete]
03. Shining Force II (GEN) [complete]
04. Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya (GG) [manual]
05. Shining Force CD (Sega CD) [complete]
06. Shining Force III (SAT) [complete]
07. Shining Force: Ressurection of Dark Dragon (GBA) [complete]
08. Shining Soul II (GBA) [complete]
09. Shining Tears (PS2) [complete]
10. Shining Force Neo (PS2) [complete]
11. Jogurt Plush
Missing: Shining Wisdom, & Shining in the Holy Ark. I'd rather forget about Shining Soul altogether.
I just have the Saturn games. SFIII (US), parts 2 and 3 (JP) and the Premium disc (one of the few times I paid an arm and a leg for something on eBay). Also have Shining Wisdom (not very good) and Shining the Holy Ark (great game).
Although I haven't played the earlier Shining games, I absolutely love the ones I have. It's a real shame that Sega and Camelot parted ways. I've had some of the newer PS2 Shining games in my Gamefly queue for awhile, but they don't really look anything like the older games. The game world, character designs, and music that Camelot came up with for their Shining games was just so awesome. I tried playing the first Golden Sun, but it felt to me like Camelot had lost some of the magic in transitioning to that series.

That Jogurt plush is beyond awesome. :) Where'd you get it, Daria?
These topics are really cool, keep 'em coming. :) The only series collections that I have that are truly impressive would be my Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile collections, and I suppose my Wonder Project J collection, but since I got all my gaming stuff split up between two locations I wouldn't really want to take photos of just half a collecton.
Getting back to Shining Force, since you collect Japanese games too, you should look into Feda for Super Famicom. If I remember things correctly, its staff consisted of a lot of the people behind the Genesis Shining Force titles, and it feels like some long-lost cousin.

Waiiiit a minute. They made Shining Force II with the old plastic case, Daria? I thought they only made it in the crappy cardboard box version. Where did you get that...or did you make it yourself to hold the game (hate those paper boxes myself)?

Nah I made that. I had a damaged box and cut it down to fit in a clamshell. Not the smartest idea I ever had, but it looks really nice.
Aussie: Sega Direct started selling those Jogurt plushies around the time Shining Soul first came out. I don't remember how I actually bought him since they didn't ship to the US, but I do know Play Asia was carrying them for awhile as well.

As Daria stated, SF2 only ever came in a cardboard box. It is sort of tragic! :(

no Premium Disc love?
I'd love to have it, but I can't fathom paying $100+ for it when it really isn't a game! Maybe if I could find it with no scratches/marks for <$60 I'd go for it.

does your Scenario 2 & 3 still have the token? Does your US ShF3 have a UPC?
if "yes" to both, email Camelot on how to receive a copy

Unfortunately no tokens, but they do have the spine cards and yes my US SF3 has the UPC. Is there still a way to get it from Camelot?

They were still accepting them a few years ago. Haven't heard anything about it in awhile. But you'll have to send in the spines and the UPC to recieve a copy.

I doubt they are still doing it, but I guess I could email them nonetheless. It can't hurt. Although I think I'd rather keep the spine cards and UPC then to get something I probably won't ever use, no matter how valuable!

If they really do return them, then I may do this. Can anyone else confirm?
Thanks,
