I'm seriously considering getting a SlikStik CO2 which is pretty damned expensive. I haven't been able to find any review on it - can someone point me in the right direction?

These are the reasons why I want to get it:
1. The different types of controls (spinners, two joysticks for one player with fire button on top, track ball, ...)
2. I have a HotRod SE which doesn't seem to be super responsive. I was hoping with the SlikStick USB input it would perform better. It should be better than a keyboard pass through?
3. I have no carpenter skills - I can program any business application any day but I'm likely to cut my hands off with power tools. I wouldn't even try to build a contral deck myself.
4. My wife is allowing me to get it ;)

Also I'd like to mount it on my arcade cabinet but that sucker is huge! Has anyone had success or problems mounting it?

Thanks,

ARCZero

i cant answer your question, but i was recently going through the same thing as you- i was considering getting the CO2 version of slikstik so i could play smash tv two players and everything...

that is a big joystick, i think the co2 measures 18" x 45" that is A LOT of table space.

if you play a lot of games that make use of the dual joysticks then id go for it i guess... i figured that i could get 75% of the performance with the x-arcade (plus you can use x-arade with consoles if you buy the $20 adaptors).... x-arcade supposedly is coming out with a trackball soon..
theoretically you could buy two (two player) x-arcades and a trackball for less money than the slikstik, and the tablespace would be way less when 2 players arnt playing.

however if tablespace isnt an issue then maybe slik stik is the best choice....

BUT- keep in mind that the x-arcade has adaptors so you can play on consoles (with future compatibility).. the only downside is you can not play games that make use of the dual analog joysticks (like some ps2, xbox, gc games)... its a tough call.

ps- i was not impressed with HotRod either- it seemed unresponsive in certain games when i tested it.

While I enjoy modern consoles, I wouldn't be using the SlikStik for them. It would be for classic games all the way. Some of the games I would like to play properly with it are:

1. Assualt
2. Tron and Discs of Tron!
3. 4-way joystick games such as Pac-man and Pengo - 8-way can suck on the classics
4. Major Havoc (well, a trackball is better than a joystick)
5. Arkanoid type games
6. Centipede and missile command type games
7. Tank games (Vindicators, Battle Zone, ...)
8. With the spinner and a joystick with a top-button, games like Ikari Warriors

I guess the main hurdles for me are the cash and if it's possible to mount it on a standard sized cabinet and make it look good.

i think the slik stik website or the mame arcade website has suggestions for mounting in arcade cabinets... im not 100% on that though.

another thing about the 4 way/ 8 way.. i believe the x arcade is adjustable if you take the baseplate off so you can switch the joystick to 4 way anytime.

definetely the slik stik has advantages (some of which are convenience) with the games you are looking to play..
