With the completion of Adventure II it got me wondering about how people nowadays learn to program for the Atari 2600 or ColecoVision. Since home brews for classic consoles have been coming out for over a decade now has anyone ever put together a book of how to program for these classic consoles? I heard someone mention a Atari for Dummies book a few years back but never heard or saw anything about it since.

Other than online FAQs, such as the one at..ugh..AtariAge, I haven't really seen books for programming for consoles. At least retro consoles at any rate.

There's actually a book sold at Fry's that I saw completely about programming for classic systems. I think the title was just "Retro Game Programming" and I thought about buying it, even though I'm not much of a programmer.

Check it out, might be a good reference if you're looking for something to get you going. Cost like twenty bucks, nice-sized volume.

This one?

If so, it's not garnering very positive reviews at amazon.com...

Nevermind I said anything.

But it does exist, so I get a point or two, right? ^_^;;

Point to RY.

Ouch, that book apparently sucks. Someone, as usual, is just trying to get some bucks. :(
