First there was Contra:SS. Then came Viewtiful Joe. Now there is new of a new side-scroller on the way from Majesco (some of their games are pretty good).
So the question posed here is: Are side scrollers on the way back, dare we dream that are prayers have been awnsered? Or is it a few isolated incedents?

Only if God really, really likes me.
*sigh* We need more Symphony of the Nights.

God, I hope so. I read somewhere that Konmai's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be like the classic games of old. If it's gonna be anything like Turtles in Time, I'm there. :-D

The side-scroller already seems alive and well on the Game Boy Advance, but it'd be great to see more of it on the home systems. I still continue to hope that Agetec will bring Metal Slug 3 out for the domestic PS2.

Not to party poop, but based on checking out the latest GI -I'd say no. Upcoming titles like the new Pitfall, and Jak2 will seek to redefine the platformer with more wide-open and diverse gameplay.

Most non-triumphant. :(

Contra did well enough to prove that side-scrollers can still rake in the dough.
It just seems that suddenly its okay to make side scrollers for the home consols. I think maybe the "everything 3D" mentality is starting to wear off.

What were the numbers on Contra? Did it really sell that well? I haven't seen a lot of them in stores.
I hope that the 2-D side-scrollers are back, but I think that some of the companies are just testing the water again on the major systems... with the exception of the GBA which is wonderful with it's side-scrollers.
But, I am hoping that we can put the new Castlevania in this list of upcoming 2-D games... and that would be a BIG one. It might signal some more. But, until Guardian Heroes has a proper sequel, I won't consider it a renaissance yet.
