View Full Version : WI/IL Gaming night / "Out of control" 2007

Kamino

Well, I've moved out again, hence, I am able to host another Wisconsin/Illinois gaming night!

Here's my tenative plan.
I learned a bit from out of control 2006. It was a great time, But This time I would like to not piss off ALL MY NEIGHBOURS AT ONCE.
I am now located in plymouth, WI. I'm not in a building this time; the distance between my walls and the neighbour's houses exceeds 20feet.
My idea is to do this on a saturday in march. Do the gaming thing during the day, and I'll BBQ outside. There's plenty of room outside to stand around and drink, etc...and about the same amount of room as 2006 inside, if we pile up tradeboxes outside instead of inside.
In the evening, to avoid any cops showing up, I suggest we move it over to a hotel in town. I'd ask that everyone who plans to stay for this portion chip in for the hotel room.

Now, as for date: like I said, I'm thinking march. We *could* do late april, but the weekend of the 14th-15th is out of the question for me, as I am attending pinball at the zoo in michigan.

Any particular weekend work better for X person?? We have a *little* time to iron this out.

Depending on how my weekends go, this looks do-able.

I am in this time, no bailing out. My work schedule has changed so there should be no problems.

And why the fear of the police? You'll probably get arrested for something eventually, so why not get it out of the way early? No time like the present, I always say.

Perkar

i can't believe there were no cops for OUT OF CONTROL 2k6, and then when we had 5 people in the fucking aprtment, minding our own business playing guitar hero, we had cops show up. fucking ridiculous.

YOU ARE SO OUT OF CONTROL

(Couldn't resist.)

Kamino

As of now, I'm thinking either the 17th, 24th, or 31st of March. I'll finalise the date before the first of Febuary.

Matt-El

I vote for 24th.

I'll be there.

anyone else in for the 24th?

OUTTA CONTROL MY DICK!

As I am moving farther away, I get more pissed off. Everyon, moving to texas! Pack your shit and join us. We'll have a huge jamboree known as "Sothys Seriously Stupendous Super Summer Sequence 2007!!!!!!!!"

hosted at fuyukaze's place (just dont tell him)

Kamino
02-10-2007, 05:59 PM
cancelled.

YoshiM
02-15-2007, 11:06 PM
Well, since Kamino cancelled I wouldn't mind hosting it. I live in a two story house with a pretty huge living area and a decent size dining area so space isn't a problem. I'm not sure exactly how "out of control" things went (I heard rumors) and while I can't get evicted, I do live about two blocks from the cop shop...just FYI. If that's not a deterrent I also own cats, in case anyone is allergic.

I'll check the wife's schedule to see if there's anything conflicting with the aforementioned March 24th date. If anyone's interested, lemme know.

Kamino
02-16-2007, 12:42 AM
WTF, If you host i'm down.
the main reason i cancelled is this - I have less space than I had in FDL, and I found out that ALL The neighbours know the dude who rents me this place - who is also a family f riend - yada yada yada, I can't really afford to do it. I'd be more than willing to pitch in though, if YoshiM's hosting.

The Brown Eye
02-16-2007, 06:11 AM
Well poo! Since Kamino cancelled, I will be busy the weekend of the 17th or the 24th (not sure which one yet). I should know end of next week or so. Anything in April will work for sure, as would the 31st.

I'd be more than happy to bring something from all of the food groups (salt, fat, beer, and sugar).

YoshiM
02-16-2007, 03:14 PM
Oh, forgot to mention that I live in Sheboygan, which is 10 miles east of Plymouth right off of highway 43.

So far March 24th is still looking good, I should know 100% by Monday if the wife planned anything (she likes doing up Pampered Chef and other such deals).

Also, think of what you all would like to eat. We can grill out, order some insanely tasty but cheap pizza (Theo's Pizza, tastes like Little Caeser's and it's $5 for a large one topping 'za) whatever. We'll stock up on some soda but you'll have to bring your own alcohol as we don't drink and thus don't know what to really get (and might get skunky beer or something).

As for gaming, I have a 27" TV in the main room, a 27" TV upstairs in my game room, a 13" Commodore monitor and an older no-frills 20" Zenith with coax antenna connection. Game systems I have are Atari VCS, INTV, SMS, NES, SNES, Saturn, Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox and a Wii with three controllers (& 2 chucks so far).

While I live in the city I haven't really looked at what hotel accomodations there are so I'll research that and post later. I haven't run the idea of having people stay over with the wife (as I just thought of that now) but it shouldn't be a problem as we do have space (one love seat, one long couch, total of four recliners in the house, a spare bedroom, the floor of the living area and a basement that's fairly warm and has a toilet). I'll let y'all know on that.

dave2236
02-16-2007, 05:24 PM
I'm pretty sure I have nothing going on that weekend, so count me in.

I can bring an arcade machine along for entertainment.

Hopefully I have a house by June, then we can have a party at my place.

Kroogah
02-17-2007, 08:33 AM
March 24th would be great. I need a weekend away from Rockford, and I'm not sure if I can last until MGC!

I can supply GH2 + 2 guitars, my own Wiimote+chuck, Rayman, Warioware Ridiculous Moves, a Commodore monitor, and a bunch of GC goodness (Smash, Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Donkey Konga 1 and 2)

Anyone have Saturn Bomberman and some multitaps? I bought Bomberman '93 for Virtual Console and I've been jonesing. I can bring my own controller for that too.

I can also bring tunes.

Is this gathering for any board members that want to come, or do you all know eachother personally? Because I asked to ride with Kroogah and he said no because we've never met before. Which threw me off becuase I was assuming this was mostly board members who have not met previously.

No, it's for any board members, I just don't want to pick you up cuz I don't know you personally. Feel free to come.

Thats cool if your not comfortable with that. But here are some interesting facts.

I met my now wife, online when we were about 15-16 years old.
One of my best friends ever I met on the internet.
January of this year i flew from IL to VA to meet friends from a message board, some came from norway, iceland, canada, and all over the U.S. to meet!

Well, since it's still early, the date can always be changed. I think that we'd all want a time that all of us can meet. Personally, I have no plans and just need to give work a couple weeks in advance notice for days off, so no guff from me if it's in april or whatev.

YoshiM
02-25-2007, 11:12 PM
I'm pretty flexible-as long as I know in advance I can make plans for it.

What's the consensus? April work better for everyone?

The Brown Eye
02-27-2007, 03:55 PM
I'm good for anything in April as long as I know about it ahead of time. However, if March 24th works for everyone, I'd just leave it. There's always a next time!

Matt-El
02-28-2007, 07:33 PM
To help nail down some stuff, I've listed a couple of things:

Let's nail down some names of who's going. I will, kroogah, mills...

Perkar, with a possible appearance by the immortal spoon?

Though kamino won't host it, I wouldn't see why he wouldn't pop in...

Anybody else should post in with their confirmation

Second: Directions for those coming from afar?

Third: Time.

And Fourth, anyone wanna do some stuff earlier in the day? Like search the EB games and Gamestop in Sheboygan and maybe a couple of other places? I would be willing to lead the way to them.

agbulls
02-28-2007, 07:54 PM
I live in Chicago, and might be able to convince my wife if you guys actually set something concrete. I'll keep watching for updates and let you know.

YoshiM
02-28-2007, 11:15 PM
The who's (thus far):

Kamino
Kroogah
Matt-El
dave2236
Brown Eye (if in April)
agbulls (once we get our stuff together)

The When:
So far everyone has agreed on the March 24th date except Brown Eye can't make it and mentioned April (though March 31st was also mentioned, that still a possibility?). The first weekend in April is probably out (Easter weekend) but I'm pretty sure the rest of the weekends of that month would be open. Let's get a vote on this

Start Time: say 1:00 PM

The Where:

Getting here is easy and probably most everyone north or south is going to take I-43.

DIRECTIONS: If traveling North or South by I-43: take the Hwy 23 East exit into Sheboygan and keep going straight. Keep going east until you reach the 5th stop light, that's N. 10th and there will be a place called "Magic Car Wash" on your right. Turn right and follow N. 10th for 4 blocks and turn left. That will be New York Ave. My house is in the middle of the street on the north side (would be your left following these directions) with a barn red front right next to a business called "Hoffman's Rug and Furniture Cleaners" (has a sign in front).

If anyone needs alternate directions let me know where you're coming from.

The Where Do I Sleep?:

I've got space here-1 couch, 1 love seat, four reclining chairs, 1 spare bed, and a queen sized air mattress that can go almost anywhere.

Local Hotels:

The Sheboygan Hotel (723 Center Ave, 1 block south and about 2-3 blocks east) (920) 458-1400

Fountain Park Hotel (930 N 8th St, 2 blocks east and 2 1/2 blocks north) (920) 458-4641

La Quinta Inn (2932 Kohler Memorial Drive, off a frontage road along side Hwy 23. You can get to it by taking Hwy 23 to the first stop lights-N. 25th St.-turn left the left again at the next set of lights and follow the frontage road there) (920) 457-2321

That's about what available within a close distance that won't overly break the bank (lots of bed and breakfast places by me as I'm about 6 to 7 blocks from the lake).

I can still do the 31st as well. I'll keep watching the thread and see what happens.

YoshiM

Figure I'd give this a bumpty-bump. Any comments/questions/date changes/etc?

The Brown Eye

You might want to PM some of the members that went last time and/or posted in this very thread, since not everyone looks at this forum everyday.

Kamino

31st looks good for me. I'll probably get a ride to the event, and probably will just take a cab home. I think it's something ridiculous like 30 bucks to get a cab home from sheboygan to plymouth.

The Brown Eye

Is this dead in the water?

YoshiM
03-12-2007, 08:59 AM
So far it's still on but no one's really adding to the thread. I'd hate to see people get left out due to the day it's on but no one's really letting any of us know if alternate days (so far 31st).

I'm going to let this go until March 16th. If there's really no additional input, then we'll consider it dead.

Kroogah
03-12-2007, 09:54 AM

About 150 miles.

We'll have some soda on hand (a mix of Coca-Cola products) and some junk food (different kinds of chips). My wife and I don't drink so it's B.Y.O.A. I've got a post earlier in the thread that lists what I have in the game department. As for "main course" food we can do the party favorite of pizza. There's a close joint that does your standard pie along with more exotics like taco pizza or BLT.

So, anyone interested in upping the nerdiness of this event? I just got back into Magic: The Gathering, plus I think I still have a D&D 3rd edition rulebook kicking around here. Plus a buncha Pokemon cards to get rid of.

YoshiM

Due to some work that's been plopped on my lap that needs to be done this coming weekend, the party will be definitely absolutely held on Saturday March 31st.

Kroogah: funny you mention D&D-I just stored my books in the basement on Saturday due to lack of use.

I remember that from last time. There wasn't any major group play until later, about when I left (people were playing the Simpsons arcade game on a modded Xbox, IIRC).

Well, it's always good to have options.

I'm definitely making the 3-hour trip. Bringing a bunch of stuff to sell. NES carts, Super Famicom stuff, manuals (cheap!) and other garbage.

Probably will aim at showing up early evening, 4 or 5 p.m. and most likely leaving the same night. Have to work Sunday night you see.

I'll bring my PS2 Guitar Hero controller just because I can, as well as my Smash Bros. Melee A-game.

I hope everyone who came had a good time Saturday.

The day kicked off with Matt-El arriving first. He schooled me at King of Fighters ('03?) until Kamino arrived. If memory serves The Brown Eye popped in followed by dave2236. Played some Wii Sports, some Bomberman import and then came the Super Smash Bros Melee. Later the N64 came out and got our Conker's Multiplayer, Mario Kart 64 and Perfect Dark games on. Kamino ducked out earlier due to having to go to work for a few hours. When he got back we decided to check out his place as the group size was pretty small.

Got to his place and played some TMNT Arcade on his 360 (and discovered a funny bug that will let you mop up 7 achievement points without even playing) followed by a little Rockstar Table Tennis. After not being able to find any 4 player games, out came the guitars for some GH2.

All in all a fun night. Hope to do this again sometime.

The Brown Eye
04-03-2007, 05:01 PM
It absolutely was a good time. Thanks to you (and Kamino) for hosting.

A couple of random notes: I hate table Table Tennis. I am not coordinated enough to play Guitar Hero. Pizza is good. We must do this again.

And I hope Kamino got his leak fixed...

YoshiM

And I hope Kamino got his leak fixed...

I talked to him on Sunday. His landlord's going over to caulk it. I'm not sure exactly WHAT they're going to caulk as there looks to be extensive wood rot from what little I could see. It'd take a lot of freakin' caulk.

Kamino: if you read this I highly suggest you flip flop your couch and TVs. A couch is cheap to replace. Your TVs aren't. Plus who knows how much floor damage you have now so in a short time the TV stands closest to the leak could start to sink through the floor. I've had it happen to me at my old trailer. It didn't sink all the way through but there was a noticeable sunken "ridge" where my wife's circa early 1990's Sony rack system with heavy power sub sat.
