Hey Guys,

I'm the co-owner of the Good Luck Charlie Brown prototype for the Atari 2600. I just posted a link on another forum to a small youtube video with some footage of the game, and I thought I would share it here as well:

I dropped out of video game collecting several years ago, and for various reasons I'm going to start unloading most of my collection this year. This means the GLCB proto cart will eventually go as well. Hopefully it will find a safe home.

Dude - that's great!

Was this an Activision proto?

No, it wasn't an Activision prototype. It was designed by Atari. It was originally part of the Children's Computer Workshop series that included games featuring Disney, Sesame Street, Peanuts, and Muppet characters. The only Peanuts game that came out officially was Snoopy and the Red Baron. Charlie Brown was being programmed by Christopher Omarzu, but was apparently scrapped. More precise details can be found here:

I will be keeping an eye out for this sale, because it may be the first proto I try and get my hands on.

Matt,

Thank you so much for posting and sharing this. This is really cool, a missing piece of Atari history. I kinda got goosebumps just watching it!

I love how the perspective of the kite looks as it gets higher, with the illusion of going out further away. I also love how the kite-eating trees start to smile (snarl?) as ol' Chuck starts to get close, and how they finally catch and chomp the kite (reminds me of the lava hand in Joust!). I dearly hope that whoever ends up purchasing this will share the ROM with the community; I would love to see an ambitious homebrewer/hacker finish off the game!

I'm going to be out of the country for a bit, and after that my brother and I are going to decide what to do with it (he's the one that actually discovered and purchased it). Nothing will happen until at least late Feb. or early March. I'm thinking about ebay or a private auction on AtariAge. Any opinions? Feel free to post or PM me with thoughts.

No I was just saying, because I happen to be a huge Peanuts fan and a proto its like a dream come true...but alas I am a broke college student so I doubt I will win.

Wow, I can't believe it's been ten years either. I remember when I first started actually collecting around 1997, this cart was just discovered. Crazy.

I'm saying sell it at the CGE auction. I know I would be intrested, along with alot of other people. People bring big bucks to that auction as well......
