No replies to this thread until now, so it looks like the US version is getting dissed again. Face facts. It stinks! :)

... no it doesn't. It's a FUN game.
The arcade version is extremely fun, but the console version....

The arcade version and console versions are virtually the same: NAOMI = Dreamcast.
Zombie Revenge is a corny beatemup. This game is cheesy. This is what makes it so great. So it is easy for someone to be looking at this game with a different perspective, and think of it as bad.
The only difference between the Japanese and US versions of the game is the downloadable content.
Also, play this game with an arcade stick for the authentic experience.

I think the difference in opinion between the US and Japanese releases comes from the people that bought, played, and reviews both. People that imported the japanese release knew that they were in for a fun little arcade beat 'em up and knew what that entailed. They didn't get it with the intention of beating it by credit feeding it, they got it because they enjoyed beat 'em ups, they liked the gameplay system, and they most likely played it a few times in arcades beforehand.
People that bought the US version and hated it most likely never played it in arcades before and were seriously disappointed that you could credit feed your whole way through the game so quickly. IIRC, Gigawing and Cannon Spike suffered similar complaints in their reviews ("WTF, This game is only 15 minutes long!") by people completely missing the point of the arcade game (self-set goals and challenges, such as going for the high score or beating the game on a single credit) and typically called the games, "too easy".
I'm glad that Ikaruga and Gradius changed the system up and only give you a handful of credits at the start before slowly giving you more over time (1 per hour of gameplay). It kept the reviewers from shitting on them for being too easy, at least.

Well, I didn't really mean that. I was just poking fun since he talked about people dissing the games and the thread slipped to page 6 :) So I bumped it during my bi-weekly DP visits which I spend an evening reading up on threads I missed in the past two weeks and end up all the way back on page 9-10 sometimes.
