Tokyopia (http://www.tokyopia.com/) recently published two Final Fantasy X-2 previews, one of which was written by Chris "Kobunheatforum" Kohler, who's evidently too good (or too busy) to post here anymore. Both stories are interesting reading, but they also raise the question of whether or not any Final Fantasy should have a sequel, since each game in the series is designed as its own self-contained story and carries a solid sense of closure.

Here's the topic: Which Final Fantasy, if any, could best support a sequel? A clever writer could wring some half-convincing epilogue from FFVIII's convoluted time-compression story, I guess, or perhaps the villain from FFV could return as he did in the enjoyably goofy Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals anime. But would it work?

Discuss.

I don't know, most of the Final Fantasies are pretty, well... Final. Either the world gets saved when X is obliterated complletely and utterly, or the world is saved by erasing Y events from all of history, making world saving a non-issue.

The best way to do something like this (and I've said this before), is to pull a Kojima and build a second game that takes place at the same time and in the same world, but with different characters on a different storyline whose events influence events from the first game. This would be especially good in FFVII, where there were lots of events that occured just as cloud came into a town, or where your party gets to a town during the aftermath.

The best would be if you made a game with this in mind, then you could create events where the event is interpreted one way, then in the second game, the event is seen in a whole new light.

And then from there, When you release the second game, you can have the team from the second game meet up with the team from the first game, and see how things turned out for them, and then the team from the second game can move on to either get the wheels turning on setting up reform in the post saved world, or the main character from the first game can join with you as you fight to overcome his personal demons (something that was never fully addressed in the first game.

I have dibs on that idea, so if any game makers are reading this, PM me, and we'll discuss :)

I wrote a FF fic years back inspired by the FF novella (anyone remember that?) linking FF4 and 6 togehter.
