So I just got this DaphneX laserdisc arcade emulator running on my modded Xbox. I've got Space Ace, Dragon's Lair, and Cliff Hanger loaded up on it right now and the they all seem to run fine. One strange thing I've noticed though is that there are no continues allowed in DL and Space Ace (don't know about Cliff Hanger since I really haven't played it yet).

Did the original arcade versions of DL/SA allow continues? I could have sworn they did but it's been about 20 years since I played them, so I don't remember. Every home version I played though lets you continue though.

Is my Daphne emulator messed up or is that how they are supposed to be?

The Dragons Lair's that I remember playing when I was little allowed me to continue, but I sucked so bad that I didn't do it but once or twice because the quarters were too precious.

I remember it having continues, as well...

They probably took out continues to make it harder.

You might have to check your dipswitch settings. I'm not familiar with Daphne, so I wouldn't know the precise buttons to press.

Yeah, that's strange I'm not getting continues in Daphne. Guess I'll have to check the settings and see if they're disabled.

Yes you can set it to have continues. You can also set the version of Dragons Lair you play (I forget the versions but you can choose something like v1.0, 1.1, etc.) If you figure it out, do yourself a favor and choose the highest version as it improves a lot of stuff like the moves make more sense, the scenes have some better logical flow in their appearance, and the drawbridge scene is there, etc.

It's been a while since I messed with Daphne on the Xbox , so I forget exactly how to do it (if you had asked me this a couple of years ago in my xbox craze I would have been all over it LOL).. but I'm sure it's in the readme.

Also, depending on the mpegs you got, you can have a pretty different experience with the sound. I noticed that the video that was ripped from the DVDs tended to have real soft sound effects. But the version ripped from the laserdisc was loud and clear. It all depends on the ripper :)

I didn't know the original allowed continues. The one I always played didn't, though it would let you put in more quarters for extra credits, of course. No wonder I sucked so badly at it! I never was allowed to get far enough to try more! I just thought the game was impossible and when I heard of people beating it, I just shrugged and bowed.
