Have a great collection you want to show off? If so, the Midwest Gaming Classic '07 (June 9-10, 2007) is looking for more collectors to help make this year's event our best since the convention's inception in 2001.

Every year the Midwest Gaming Classic has set out to have a vast collection of systems on display and sometimes playable in our "museum" area, from decades-old Atari 2600 & Pong machines, to the more uncommon systems like a Super A'Can & PC-FX, to even the more contemporary Xbox 360's & Wii's. In the past the museum has been put together by a few collectors including myself that specialize on a wide variety of gaming consoles, but this year it is our hope to have more collectors collaborate by focusing on specific consoles, publishers/developers, or hardware manufacturers like Nintendo, Sega, and NEC, thereby producing a more complete museum.

So for example, while I personally have something like a Virtual Boy and a few games that I bring as part of the show, another collector that has focused more of their attention on the Virtual Boy could potentially have things like an in-store display unit, marketing materials, and some of the more uncommon games that I might not have, or simply have no room for in my vehicle. By including more collectors with their individual preferences into the show, it is our hope that we can create something truly remarkable this year.

If you've never heard of the Midwest Gaming Classic, it is an annual video game convention held in the Olympia Resort & Conference Center between the Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL areas. During the last two events, the convention has attracted more than 1,200 people on average, improving attendance every year since its inception in 2001. The convention is a place where people can play, buy, and sell a variety of different video game-related items including consoles, pinball machines, and stand-up arcades. For more information, you can view the convention's website at www.midwestgamingclassic.com.

If you’re a collector interested in showing at the event, here’s a little more information about the museum area itself:

<> Once you contact me and we agree to have you as part of the museum team, you will be given a portion of our allotted space to create a booth in the museum, as well as free admittance. If you’re interested in staying at the resort during the convention, hotel rooms are $94 a night (the same discounted rate I also pay.)
<> The convention is a very safe spot to show off your stuff. Since the convention’s inception in 2001, we’ve virtually never had a problem with any sort of theft, and the attendees have generally kept very good care of the items that are playable.
<> Despite this exceptionally good track record, we continue to remain proactive by having security present, as well as creating additional theft deterrent devices for this year’s show. Rooms are locked every night.

If you're a collector interested in showing at the event, you may contact me at mwgc_museum@yahoo.com and I can go over any further details.

Thank you for your interest!

Are you looking for consoles or game libraries to display?

Generally we have areas set up for a particular console and company, display materials around and behind that spot, and then games and accessories for it. Often times the areas are playable as well, meaning we have a game set up and a controller or two for people to pick up and play.

Still, I'm open to suggestions for the different booths that will be in the museum area. If you wanted to simply set up something like a collection of games or whatnot, let me know what your plans are and I can give you an idea if that would work out.

I have gone the past 2 MWGC (2004,2006) and have seen the console museum (very nice!). I would be willing to display a console for 2007. I was curious if you folks were considering displaying libraries as well. I might have something to display possibly but not sure.

Basically if you would be able to display a system and have enough to do a nice table-sized booth out of it, then it would likely fit in with the rest of the museum.

Libraries would be interesting as well, but I'd like to know what it is you would plan on bringing.

Drop me an e-mail at the mwgc_museum@yahoo.com e-mail and we can go over it.

Awesome, I live about 20 minutes from this place! I'll be there in June. Don't know if I have much of anything to contribute, but I'll be there regardless.

I was at MWG classic last year, and it was loads of fun. I will probably going back with basically the same guys as last year. I'm not nearly as into gaming/classic gaming as I was back then, but I do want to go just for the day, and have some fun.

Are things for sale/trade at this too? Or it this more of a gawk-style event? :)

There are lots of vendors (I am one of them) and a trading area, so there are lots of things to buy as well as "gawk" at.

There are three semi-seperate areas at the show -- one of which is the aforementioned museum area, there will be an events/tournament area, and there will be a vendors area.

The vendors at last year's show were pretty varied... You could find games for just about every system there from Atari to Xbox, as well as parts for pinball & arcade machines, and a healthy dose of imports & collectibles.

I think the cost only goes toward for vendors and not exhibitors.

ill look into it some more. It doesnt say too much to begin with about prices axcept that you can buy table packages. I didnt see anything that distinguishes between vendors or exhibitors

I'm guessing Gundam that you have already in contacted with me. If not, do contact me because if you are setting up stuff to add to the show and not selling, we try to provide tables for free. It's tough because we pay for the tables out of our own pockets, but we try to keep our costs as low as possible.

This is a show made for gamers, by gamers. Unlike other shows, we aren't going to turn our back on the people that make this show great -- the gamers themselves. We aren't going to suddenly state that we're transistioning to draw the larger industry to our show. We are going to keep costs for attendees as low as we can. We are going to support anyone who wants to show off an awesome collection and not sell it, just because they want to share what they enjoy with others. We're not going to claim inflated numbers of attendees. We're not going to get a board of people 'in the industry' to tell us what to do.

We're going to leave this show exactly how it has been, and how it has grown -- and that is from the gamers who want to dedicate their time to it because they believe that we should have a place to gather. The Midwest Gaming Classic only exists because of volunteers who have given the show a ton of their personal time to work on improving it and making it better every year. We have a group of about 25 people that work on it, and considering that so far we have never turned a profit, their dedication is amazing, and is the reason why I love this hobby as much as I do.

Hopefully, that gives you an idea of where we are coming from with all of this. If you or anyone else has anything that you would like to contribute, my email address is loosen at goatstore dot com, and I welcome you to email me. Heck, even if you just want to bring a TV to loan to us so we can get one more system up for people to check out, we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, and I hope to see everyone at the show when June comes around!

If you

I would Display my nes accessory collection...

I lost track of this post for some odd reason, so my appologies upfront. =)

Dan mentioned that you were interested in doing something in the museum this year, and while we're pushed for space right now, I believe we can squeeze you in with what you've requested. I do, however, need to talk some stuff over with you before the show, so please e-mail me at mwgc_museum@yahoo.com in the near future.

Thanks!
