I got a Laseractive a while ago, but had to glue the laser bracket in place (because it was broken when the Laseractive arrived throught the post).
I have the Sega pack (American) and cartridges work fine with it. But I cannot play Sega CD games at all, and when I run Mega LD games:
- It plays right through the video instead of allowing me to play the game; the joypad activates the LD player controls instead of the game functions.
- The machine is tempermental; discs will spin, but sometimes slow back down and stop. They also make a fairly loud scuffly sound as they spin. Are they supposed to sound loud?
- When LDs do play, they repeatedly jump back about half a second after a few seconds.

I don't know anything about how a Laseractive should work. I would appreciate help.
Sorry if a similar topic's been posted before.

PS How precise does the position of the laser need to be for it to work?

The unfortunate fact is that Laserdisc players don't ship well. If an internal part broke in transport, who knows what kind of godawful trauma the rest of the machine sustained.

There are several critical things that can be knocked out of alignment OR just plain fail that could explain your symptoms, including:

-Spindle/Turntable height & alignment
-Laser alignment & angle
-Upper spindle bearing

I'd know more about fixing LD players if I had the service tools, but I haven't run into any of them yet.

If you're so inclined, the Laseractive service manual is available here:
