View Full Version : Can you use a Game Genie on SMS games via Power Base Converter?

I thought I would ask this before I dug the the PBC out of the attic.

Has anyone tried to apply a (Genesis) Game Genie to SMS games by using the power base converter? Would it work? Could it be made to work? Or is the GG set up to only modify instructions sent to the 68000?

I don't know much about programming, etc., so forgive my ignorance if this is completely ridiculous.

This is something i would like to know too!
There was only the PAR for the SMS and most of them are now defective to my knowledge (not sure why!), mine certainly is!

The pin set up is totally different between Genny and MS games, as are the cart cases themselves. The GG wouldn't even recognize that there's a cart attached, I think.

It would actually be the PBC that was attached to the GG, not a cart per se.

SMS Cart-->PBC-->Game Genie-->Genesis

I tried this as soon as I got a GG back in the day. I forget what happened, but I know it was one of two things. Either you got nothing on the screen, or you got the GG menu, and then hit start and then nothing. Can't remember which, though.

Just get an SMS Pro Action Replay, or Action Replay, or whatever it was called. Tough to find on ebay, iirc. I got mine about 5 years ago and I had to wait about 6 months for it to appear online. Maybe you'll have better luck now. I think I paid about $60 for it, but I don't remember.
