Does anyone know anything about this Playstation? Here's what was e-mailed to me:

"Just wondering if you could help me. I currently have at home a yellow original playstation which is in the colours of the former formula 1 racing team Jordan. My wife acquired this playstation from a public relations co when released some ten yrs or so ago and we are led to believe it is one of only ten made here in the uk."

Seeing how the buttons are still standard grey, it's probably just a custom-made (or 10 custom made) ones that were for some sort of promotional item. If it's a UK thing, I'd get AtariBuff on the situation, as he's the UK side of the PlayStation nerds...I mean...experts.

There are a spew of these PlayStations appearing at the moment, I have seen a Apocolypse one, I myself have a different Formula 1 one at home. With the little bit of reseach I have done I have deduced that they are case mod consoles that were used for competitions and public relation type events.

What you could do is contact the Jordan racing team and find out if they know anything about it. Getting official clarification is always a plus something I couldn't do with my Formula 1 PS1 as it had something to do with Silverstone race track but alas no one based out of there had a clue about it.

Another thing that getting an official clarification will do is up the price, at the moment these case modded consoles are not 'sought after', however as soon as an official statement is made about them they become very very collectable. The Men In Black case mod is an example of this.

One question I will ask about it is are the controllers modded as well?

It seems that the UK has gotten a bunch of these funky PlayStations that companies are making up for them that are all now starting to leak out of the woodworks. I've also seen a Men In Black one (owned by PlayStationMuseum if memory serves). I don't think that the MiB one is all that valuable, just that PSM has really tried to make it valuable by tossing it up on ebay with a high price on it.

So none of these are officially done by Sony - just by whatever company wants to give them away?

I gave him your e-mail, AtariBuff.

@QueenKatofTypos
thanks.
I once acquired a copy of "Formula One '97" limited edition (where also the Jordan F1 team is featured on the cardboard sleeve) AND I also did receive a Jordan F1 badge with it so ***maybe*** the Jordan team made a little deal with Sony about the release of such a package. But this is purest speculation and frankly I don't really believe that it happened that way.
There are many such editions of the PlayStation 1 around, some have just a decor sticker other are made more professionally - it's not easy to play detective in such cases.
