Squirrelled away in the release about changing VAT rates on eBay ... they are DOUBLING the final value fee for Video Games (and books, music, DVDs etc)!!
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/importantinfo/
FVFs will now be 9% - and they try to pass this off as a "saving" by "assuming" that items have to be relisted an average of 2-3 times before they sell. This really honestly takes the piss.
Oh yeah, nearly forgot to mention this too:
"Reserve Fee Refunds
We will no longer refund Reserve Fees if an item sells."

Can you explain?
When I looked over this today quite quickly, I saw it as reduced fees??? Where does it show its more expensive? Can you give an example?
Thanks Joel.

wow that does suck for you...kinda funny how they kinda slipped it in there and tried to show it as savings. They did drop the insertion fees to pretty much .10 for any starting price or format, but that really does nothing cause I doubt they adjusted the pic insertion rate, or anything else people usually add to an auction listing.
9% is a killer, not to mention if ya gotta pay another 3%+ to paypal.

Yep, 9% Final value fees.
And their tables showing "savings" are extremely misleading - if you read the small print, they "assume" that you list the item either two or three times to get the sale - and compare the costs to listing two or three times at the old fee rates. This is to mask the fact that if your items generally sell first time round, you will take a massive hit.
Plus the final table, which is the only one that actually shows negative "savings" (they avoid actually saying "loss" anywhere), they stop the table at a final value of £10 ... it's easy to see why, because the percentage loss in the comparison already at 18%, and will get higher for higher end prices .. and that's assuming you've listed the item twice. In fact, for example if your item sells for £100 and you sold it first time round then your fees are 125% higher under the new system!!!

Its typical eBay tactics.. they must think we are stupid!
I was thinking about getting a website, this just reinforces this urge even more :-)

Jesus effing Christ - 9%? I'm not normally one to bitch about eBay's pricing, but that just takes the piss.
I don't sell massive quantities, but always price things to move, so it's pretty rare that I have to relist. C*nts.

I have to say that all it does is tempt me to list my items in the wrong category ... for a few items they probably wouldn't notice or bother much, and you'd get the old fees.

THIS IS REALLY INSANE!!
We all should all stop selling videogames on ebay.co.uk so they would know what they are doing!!
I will cancel my Ebay store there tomorrow!!

I hope you guys take a stand against this garbage. If they are going to try this tactic with ebayUK it is only a matter of time before they start doing this in America. I like how they swirl a whole bunch of minor savings with one huge rip off. This would be like someone giving someone a whole bunch of Mario bros/Duck Hunt carts to someone and then taking away their NWC championship cart and then sending a letter to the person how they got such a great deal with all those Mario bros/Duck Hunt carts.

Just canceled my store!
It was: 5.25% of the initial £29.99 (£1.57), plus 3.25% of the remaining closing value balance
Now 9% on everything !!!!
I think in most cases fees will double!!!!
The only thing we can do is just mail them and mail as many Ebay sellers to warn them and just simply stop selling there from March 1st!
I think many people just dont realize how much extra they are gonna pay!

...
I just got charged forty cents instead of thirty-five for listing an item on eBay USA.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html
They sneaked up this new fee system on me. There were no emails detailing this change in my inbox, and what's worse, these prices were not in effect last sunday! What the FUCK!
Edit:
Looks like they announced it at the beginning of the month... but I still got no emails about it. BASTARDS!

I was thinking about that, but would listing on one of the other European sites also work?

I have an account at ebay.ch (Switzerland) and Ebay.de (Germany), although I don't have an address in Germany. So listing on another site is possible for me...However, my accounts are rather old, so maybe they changed that. Germany has rather high fees compared to Ebay Switzerland though, OTOH the audience is much bigger...

Ah, so that's why I've seen several auctions for PAL stuff in US shipped ONLY to UK...
OR maybe the seller simply does want it to get back home to it's origins as stated in description...
vintage or collectibles will be next... if not already a premium fee

Well the fees have been a flat 10% on stores in the US now for some time (on most items)...yeah it blows.

well maybe google can start a FREE service like Ebay soon and make their money with google add's!
I am sure they can make it as big as Ebay if they promote it well!

Well, I've listed on eBay US before, and have seen a few Dutch & German sellers listig on eBay UK, so it shouldn't be too hard for UK sellers to list elsewhere...

Me too, but I think he was talking about where the seller lists in the US but states shipment only to the UK ... which would kind of defeat the object of the above!!
Has anyone read this?

Looks like the VAT will be down by 2.5% but still eBays fees are up so it works out better for their pockets

I don't know if you guys can see the US ebay site (Don't see why not.. really) and I don't mean to offend anyone.. but for the last two years or so.. there's been a marked increase in the number of UK sellers listing their items on eBay US. So much so.. that I get REALLY frustrated sometimes just "browsing" through the listings by platform. Seriously.. pick just about ANY platform in games (predominately Saturn, Genny and SNES though) and start browsing on page 1 (AFTER the featured section); WAY over 50% of the first few pages are always ads for PAL games based in the UK. In fact.. it's SO bad lately that on any given page you'll see 95% UK listings.. I've seen UK listings go on for entire pages before I've reached a single domestic listing. I don't know why.. but the amount always seems to drop off further back you go in listing time. Now like I said.. I'm NOT trying to dis UK sellers.. but from my point of view.. it's a royal PITA to sift through so many UK auctions for games I can't play.. am not interested in..or would never buy. evilBay plays games with ALL of us. Years back international auctions were clearly identified in the auction listing headers.. then eBay stopped doing it and I was pissed. You really couldn't tell if an auction was an international one until you went into it.. then I finally noticed that any "non-US" based auction had the price and shipping price listed in italics in the listing header. it's hard to notice.. but that's the only way you can tell anymore and it still tricks me often (My eyes are bad.).

That's probably just UK-based auctions appearing on the US site rather than people specifically listing there. Just select the "located in North America" option and you won't see any.

LOL Aw geez.. NINE years on eBay and I never even took any notice of all those search options in the box on the left side of the page! Yeah.. that'd do the trick wouldn't it? :embarrassed: Whenever I searched I simply used the box at the top.. thanks!

Heh no worries... having said that, the stuff I listed almost exclusively through eBay.com are NTSC games anyhow, so Americans would WANT to buy them ;)
