Looking to play through an Orge Battle/Tactics game. Which is best? How many are there? Are any of them just horrible?

Orge Battle? Is that a game where you try to find your way through fields of barley? I personally prefer Oatmeal Battle, starring the Quaker Oats mascot.

We can stop the thread now. The answer is:

Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (GBA)

Not only is it the best game in the Ogre Series, but it's still one of the best GBA games of all time. IMO it's even better than FF Tactics Advanced.

A little warning...if you decide to pick this game up on ebay, make sure it comes with the box/manual. Asian counterfeiters made a ton of these about three years ago. A loose copy is almost guaranteed to be a fake.

Ogre battle 64 was pretty good.

My favorite remains Ogre Battle on SNES/PS1. The PS1 version was nice since it allowed you to save during a battle, but if you're going to be playing via an emulator then it doesn't much matter :)

The downside to Ogre Battle is that it takes a while to get the swing of your reputation dealie-doo.

Tactics Ogre on the GBA is pretty snazzy, too...but grinding characters up levels to make battles easier was far, far, far more of a chore than it needed to be.

Tactics Ogre for GBA was excellent...but handhelds never top a real console in my opinion.
I prefer the Ogre Battle games over the Tactics Ogre games as well. The SNES version was fantastic but I'd say Ogre Battle 64 was my favorite of them all.

I also will cast my vote for the GBA Ogre Tactics. If I really, really like a game I play it through to the end, and Ogre Tactics kept me engaged and entertained for the entire ride.

I too think it is much better than the FFT for the GBA.

I've played both. Ogre Battle for PSX and SNES and Tactics Ogre for PSX. They're really different types of games. OB is a strategy game where you command different forces in an army where as TO is more like Final Fantasy Tactics where its an RPG with strategy elements. It's really more to taste. I really couldn't get into TO. And OB gets a little tedious. There's no real character imersion in OB like there is in the other popular RPGs/ Strategy Games. Both games are rather expensive and I personally don't think that the cost justifies the purchase of them. OB for SNES goes for around 20-30 bucks and I doubt that the one for GBA can be as bad as the PSX one. Your call.
