There was a DOS flight simulator a friend of mine way back when had and I remember it being awesome. I can't recall the name but it took place in World War II, there were several planes to choose from and recall shells flying from the ground blowing up around you, dog fights and zeppelin's floating around that you had to shoot down. Man I wish I could find that game again, but with my luck it's rough finding older PC games.

Is it Damon Slye's utter masterpiece "Aces Over Europe", perhaps ?

That looks as though it might be. Was it released in America?

Interesting site. Made me think back to when I first started playing I think Flight Simulator 4 on the family's first IBM compatible (8088 10 MHz turbo with Hercules/CGA amber display bay-bee!). Used to do some goofy stunts with the Cessna like fly under the Golden Gate Bridge. Then I tinkered with the plane editor and basically made a rocket and let it fly into the sky until the plane got "stuck" at the highest limit the sim would go.
Fun times.
