I picked it up last week and almost finished with it. SO what console or handheld games are like it

Well, there's nothing exactly like Phoenix Wright, although if you haven't picked up the sequel yet, you should do so.
The closest thing to Phoenix Wright games as far as their appeal go are point-and-click adventures. They both have puzzle solving and item gathering and stuff like that. But there aren't any other great courtroom dramas out there, let alone courtroom dramas with a great sense of humor like Phoenix Wright.

The new Hotel Dusk is supposed to be quite like it (the investigation sections at least).

Trace Memory... well, I wouldn't put it on the same level as Phoenix Wright. Trace Memory reminded me more of Myst. There's no humor, the plot is a little thin, and it's REALLY, REALLY short compared to Phoenix Wright. I finished Trace Memory in a single sitting, about five or six hours or so one evening, and afterwards, I had no desire to play it again. Makes me sorry that I bought it instead of renting it.

I just checked out this Phoenix Wright game and might go as far as buying a DS to play it. Looks awesome, and it's the style/type of game that I truly enjoy playing.

It is a great game, and there is a second one that just came out! In the genre there are (ones that I know of offhand):
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoneix Wright - and justice for all
Hotel Dusk
Touch Detective (got mediocre reviews)

I think that Snatcher for Sega CD is a lot like Phoenix Wright. I love both games. Now I feel the sudden urge to play Snatcher again.

I suppose there's Psychic Detective, but that was an FMV game that was generally very poorly regarded.

Touch Detective! Can't believe nobody's mentioned that

Touch Detective (got mediocre reviews)
I enjoyed Touch Detective, but it's not exactly a pinnacle of the genre. It's got quirky charm, and nice art, and a good light-hearted vibe about it, but the puzzle-solving is only about 10% intuitive and about 90% guesswork. You just end up running around, clicking on everything and presenting objects until you finally trigger the event that helps the story progress. It might be frustrating for some people, but I like point-and-click adventures enough that the fun stories and the charm made the game worth playing.

Oops, missed the previous mention. I liked TD better than PW though. They're BOTH in the "Try everything until you get it right" category. I thought PW was really annoying because even though I figured out the flaw in opposing counsel's argument right away, it wasn't the right TIME to object or point out other evidence yet for some reason. LIke I KNEW that there was a discrepancy in the testimony of moving left and moving right, but I couldn't get it to the right point to bring that up for some reason.

Then you're thinking too far ahead. It's okay to figure out parts of the case ahead of time, but Phoenix Wright is pretty intuitive and usually pretty clear on what exactly the game wants you to do at a given moment. You have to find specific contradictions in testimony and prove points one at a time, not try to prove everything all at once. The first time I played through Phoenix Wright, I think I only made maybe four or five wrong choices in the entire game. So no, it's not pure guesswork. You just have to think hard and use your head.
Phoenix Wright makes you use your head, makes you think logically, and forces you to solve puzzles. There is absolutely nothing like that in Touch Detective, where you're just randomly clicking everywhere with no idea what you're doing most of the time. I never once felt like my observation skills or intelligence were being tested while playing the game.

Well the court procedures in phoenix wright was fun but everything else was tedious as hell. I'm sorry but at the end of the 4th episode I couldn't take anymore. Trace memory was just as boring...but I liked it when I saw a camera on her ds...god wish they really had that.

PW is every bit as random and nonsensical as TD. Object! Not here? Ok, try again the next one. Object! No? Ok show you Exhibit A. Exhibit B. What about Exhibit C, that do anyhting for you? Oh it's Exhibit D you wanted me to show you!
