Was Akira on the NES?

I found a NES rom for Akira the other day and was curious about whether or not a game was ever released overseas?

Released on Famicom, never Stateside.

Figures oh well I doubt the game was really all that great. I forgot to mention that the rom did not work so I have no idea about the gameplay.

It seems there have been a couple of attempts to translate it, each of which died. They're listed at romhacking.net .
